Hmm I go through DBN, wonder if that's the reason. 60GB is nothing.Jozi

It's 2100 on a SATURDAY NIGHT and I am shaped at 25% - tomorrow I cancel, I've had enough of this ***.
Holy balls Afriman, that shaping policy.
Shaping Policy: 50% Download/ 50% P2P
Not exactly what a new user of not even a month, wants to see.
Care to explain?

That's all I've been having. And yes, it does suck. The explanation is you're paying for a shaped product, and you're unfortunate enough to not be in the North. Also 50% shaping isn't bad, come back when you've got 12 and 6%.
I Know, just got a bit excited cause the Cheetahs beat the Bulls, still not happy with the out of hours shaping though.:erm: dude, it's Friday
Hi all, I'm in PE and 750 m from a DSLAM but slow as hell this morning. Any idea about these results?

50% is worse than 12%...At 50, you're getting 50% of your speed, at 12% you're getting 88% of your speed...not the inverse...
AfriMan - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/439635-Afrihost-Uncapped-ADSL-Feedback?p=10567669&viewfull=1#post10567669Sorry, just to clear up, the percentage shown is the max line speed (for downloads or P2P) you will get while shaped on that policy. Two things to remember though. One, we still allow bursts through, depending on the nature of the data usage, but in general, the percentage will be fairly consistent while you are shaped. Two, real time services will always run at 100% of your line performance capability.
Now, one should also remember that the shaper is reactive, and not necessarily pro-active. When we reach our "soft" ceiling, it starts to apply shaping to the least amount of users it calculates will normalise usage, which can take a few minutes, and the policy is always intended not to be harsh or sudden. Sometimes, other factors come into play, more users increase their demand, or the bandwidth recovered doesn't satisfy the requirement to normalise performance. So there may be several consecutive actions until the balance is achieved. Sometimes the shaper takes away too much, and realises that we can relax shaping to give more capacity back to users on the network.
So why when Im at 12.5% Im actually getting ~80% of my line speed....This 50% has been the slowest my line has been in the last 10 days. I've had 12.5 and 6 about 3 times in 10 days and it wasn't slow at all.Nope
50% you are getting 50% line speed,
12.5% you are getting 12.5% line speed

Ye exactly, when at 6% P2P, I still got +100KB/s (2mbps line) during torrents.Hmm, shouldnt be? Only torrents and downloads will be shaped though... streaming/browsing wouldnt be affected

Well then I don't know. The reason I didn't think it was like that, as said above, is looking at the shaping 3 days last week which said 6.5% P2P but torrents were running at +100KB/s (2mbps line) which is weird. So my hands are in the air then. The shaping amount is the percentage of line speed available to you. If you are getting slower speeds than indicated the problem could point to other factors like the server you are downloading from, the amount of seeders on a torrent or exchange congestion.
