Hi Zertop.

Do you think I must go from uncapped 4meg to capped say the 100+100 gig??.
I see this "special" is running till Sept 2014? Then what?

Thanx

Chris

PS:Why are my youtube downloader files that I download dropping after few minutes of downloading from say 300kb/ps to 6kb and 30kb. I will start with three files downloading, and then later only one is busy at 8, 20 or 35 kb\ps?

Hi there Zertop.
I have changed back to my OW account. Funny, my youtube downloader are downloading 3 files at a time, each file running at +- 140kb/ps. Has been running now for over 10 mins. Cant be my line, router or distance from exchange or line congestion, or the rice crisis in China. Something is wrong with my uncapped account at Afri. thinking of trying to change over to capped from 1th. Will see. If it carries on like this, then goodbye to these people as well.

That shouldn't be happening :/

How much do you use p/m on average on your uncapped account? Basically, if they end the special you could transfer back to your uncapped account :)

My problem is that I joined only on the 19th of this month. I used to go about 120gig by OW.

Sleep time, and thanx for replying

Was shaped at maximum for 90% of the long weekend, very disappointing, so much for best ISP 2014 guys

I saw that there was some shaping over the weekend, but definitely not at maximum for most of the time. I think quite a lot of users would have experienced much lighter shaping than we've seen in the past few weeks :(

Have you lit up all the capacity you got yet, or still letting it through little by little?

Well thats my feedback bud, not happy

All the capacity is live, but we were shaping more to ensure that we didn't flood the network. This would mean that realtime services are always at 100%, even if shaping was still very prevalent.

From what I saw over the weekend (I'll admit I was only glancing here and there) it didn't seem like we were shaping at maximum (i.e. every uncapped user) - but I couldn't speak for the entire weekend though.

Afriman, when are the capped bundles going to reflect the double data deals that unbundled capped users get? It has been quite some time since those double data deals were put on the table. I have an uncapped bundle, and it would be easier to swap across to another bundle, but I only want to do so if they get the same levels of data as unbundled clients.

I hope everyone had an awesome long weekend. I (legally) discovered an awesome new series called Penny Dreadful. If there are other Gothic horror fans here, worth checking out.

I'll be reading through as many posts as I can over the morning. I see a few posts concerning shaping and I'll do my best to explain where we're at now, as I understand it.

Please, please, please - if I miss anyone's post - drop me a PM or email me on [email protected] and I'll make sure that you get some info or assistance. OM is always the best way to make sure you get help, cos I get a mail notification and I can ensure that I don't miss any.

Have an awesome day (hopefully you're the only one in your office and you can blast your Metallica/DreamTheater/Jay Z/Nicki Manaj/Spock's Beard really loud.

If anyone can name a Spock's Beard album without Googling it - I will be UBER impressed ;)

I don't think they will for the moment - but we've been putting a lot of thought into revising how bundles work. I'm hoping that until we do though - we'll continue to give our Capped Bundle mystery bonuses hopefully, until we figure out the best way to spread the value around. Just remember that the Double Data on Capped is a promotional special, so recreating bundles for the special, and then re-thinking them again may not be a good option (and cause mass confusion) - so we're looking for the absolute best way to ensure our clients get the convenience and discounted benefit that bundles are about.

I saw no discount when I received my invoice this month.

I contacted support and was told if it's cheaper to unbundle then I should... So basically I must inconvenience myself & unbundle to receive a better rate that bundled clients should already be receiving. Not great customer service in my opinion.

Bundles are very difficult on capped because we basically have to run multiple levels of pricing to anticipate which bundle combinations a client may opt for. This then means that we have to calculate and manipulate the bundles to offer similar value across every single possible combination, which is very difficult to do. At the end of the day, we'd rather clients were choosing products based on their needs, and that all our products offer a similar value.

I expect that this is a good opportunity to rethink bundles entirely and do them differently to minimise the confusion around how they work, and to make them more adaptable with changes in pricing. I don't know when that thinking will become a reality though.

When are we going to see some better pricing on the Uncapped Bundles... I am a loyal afrihost user and would never move away BUT when I joined it was the BEST service at the BEST price, now it is still the BEST service at a lacklustre price. I'm on a paltry 1Mb line but if I go for R100 more with you guys I go up to 2Mb. If I pay Mweb a R100 more I go up to 4Mb. (and get a free router). What's up?

Shaping Policy: 12.5% Download/ 6.25% P2P seems to be a permanent state now with AH. Clients are stuck with a crippled service with no clear indication of when things will stabilise and return to any semblance of normality. If you need an ISP to update your FB status, tweet what you had for breakfast or refresh this forum for news then AH is no worse than any of the others ISPs out there. Don't expect to run OS updates when it suits you, download Steam purchases at a reasonable rate or even stream HD videos.

I will start start looking for an alternate ISP, and I will adjust my recommendations to clients accordingly. We are definitely pulling the short end of this "sweet spot hunt" straw.
