Speedtest.net to anywhere in the world yields maximum speed but my downloads are totally crap. Business Uncapped.

Been getting 1MB/s (1024Kb/s) speeds the whole day on p2p with a business account. i still think south region is having issues :/ but all is full speed in the north :)

Rouxenator is talking about business uncapped :wtf:

Yes I know that but there is capacity issues so they shaping all accounts so thats why his speed tests are full but p2p is not. So it seems that the business accounts have realtime and non realtime priority.

I've smashed my uncapped account this weekend. extremely high usage :D But it should come down quite a bit for the rest of the month.

They will deny shaping and they would be right.

Contention, now that's a whole other ballgame.

Unshaped = http=p2p=nntp=ftp = contention = you get whatever we give you.

EDIT: but if downloads are slow but speedtest is full speed, that's shaping, on a business account, explain that AH :wtf:

Afriman, there is something serious going on in CT region - my line just got slower and slower and have now just grinded to a halt. Reset router makes connection but 2kb Net throughput and after about 10 min lose the connection. Started behaving like this at about 3pm

I'm not sure what issues were posted over the weekend, but I know there is an issue at the moment in George.

Did this come back to normal?

As far as I know the traffic on the network was pretty normal.

Sorry to say AfriMan, but you're not rid of me after all. **** knows why, but I decided to drop almost twice the monthly number on a 4mb business account instead. It's been performing admirably for a few days; pity that the home uncapped performed similarly a short few months ago. :(

I don't run my DSL line at anywhere near capacity for hours on end. Please use the measly few hundred bucks I'm subsidising others by towards getting vanilla uncapped back to its former glory.

LOL. Never wanted to get rid of you. At the end of the day, I think our conversations benefit everyone. You ask a lot of great questions, and I hope that others read our convos and feel like they have some answers.

Unless we're buying OpenWeb, I don't Vanilla Uncapped is our product ;)

Good day, i recently signed up for Afrihost 1GB everyday uncapped, and i couldn't be happier with the service I'm getting. My internet has been working perfectly until this morning my email and everything just seemed to be crawling. Did a speedtest this morning too, the ping came back normal and the download speed was 0.38 which is really low considering i cant do or access anything at the moment. Is there maybe any Afrihost/Telkom related problems in the Capetown area?

I don't know if there is a general issue that affects us. I know Telkom have some issues on their national network (though I've asked MTN to confirm that we won't be affected in any way).

As far as I can see, South is performing pretty normally but let me know what you're seeing now :(

Currently on TI Uncapped, and with all the network problems of late am highly considering changing to Afrihost Uncapped Bundle (perhaps even business 4mbps). The 1GB Free I've been using as a test account runs great, though that is obviously unshaped, so it's not a great representation of what real-world performance on an uncapped account is.

I mainly use my internet for streaming YouTube videos (local) and Twitch.tv/XBMC 1Channel and IceFilms (international servers). The speedtests here look great, but that isn't a real-world test (though everyone really seems happy here...)

So, how has Afrihost been running lately? How many gigs can I use on different uncapped packages before being throttled? I do ~200GB/month, 300GB maximum. Looking for both positive and negative feedback (pros/cons)

Thanks :)

I see quite a few people have given you their feedback. But it's always good to test for yourself. Drop me a PM so we can organise a test drive on our network :)

I can't comment on streaming, but AH don't throttle.
They do shape non priority (downloads) on Home uncapped account severely atm, especially if you route through the South.
Not to sure how the Eastern IPC is holding up.

The business accounts are not shaped, so maybe try that rather. It is the closest to the 1GB free account you have tested.

Yep, we doesn't do the throttle - we did in the past and we were never entirely happy with that. Just the word sounds terrible, like we're literally killing the internet :(

Assuming this is on a 4 or 10Mbps line, so that is pretty slow. Depends on the torrent though - some files just suck because the seeder is limiting their torrents.

Have you tested your throughput on the line with something like BitMeter OS?
