Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Guys, I am also a Home Uncapped AH account holder.

Their account is the best compared to the rest of the ISP's that I have tested in various nearby locations for the price. Shaping is minimal during daytime hours, and is often unshaped during the night/early mornings.

If you download http and streaming during the day the speeds are quite acceptable.

Cut them some slack guys. Give them some time since the whole MTN thing blows over, and I believe that we can expect awsesomeness very soon again!
You have no idea what you are talking about

Curious to find out if Diablo 3 is still completely crap on AH 1mb home uncapped? Or have they finally admitted to and/or fixed the false shaping of a gaming service...

Its been a month and they're still "testing"... Just curious to see if they've pulled their #%&! together and gone back to the old AH and i could consider returning or just forget this isp even exists, AH can keep mweb company in the abyss :P

Cancelled my AH account so cant check myself. Judging by this thread it was a wise choice to leave.

We still have yet to determine if shaping was at all involved. Diablo was never shaped previously so there is no reason to assume that we would suddenly start shaping a service, unless the service itself changes, in terms of the nature of the traffic.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad that the products works well for your purposes. :)

sigh.

You usage patterns differ from all the other people here having issues, so asking them to cut slack is a bit rich. Rather just accept that there are people who are having issues.

I don't think invalidating someone else's experience adds any value. I think if you get to express your opinion, you have to be open to letting others do the same.

Glad I could be of a service this monday!

Yes.....i wasnt questioning if AH is shaping or throttling, I am question the fact that you havent informed your client base....regardless if its a test or not. If one tends to do something that will directly influence your client base YOU INFORM THEM! Simple company 101.

We are still shaping a semi-shaped product. We've adjusted how we shape temporarily, to improve services. When we make permanent changes, then it would make sense to update our website and AUP.

Is anyone else having authentication issues?

I've just come home, and I see that my internet dropped at around 2pm, and it still hasn't connected. I get PAP authentication timed out in my router logs.

Hahaha, show me the proof that HTTP downloads on your side are shaped lightly. If you don't really mind, what's your typical usage pattern? I'm happily downloading a couple of programs at 220kB/s on my brand new WA Uncapped account. Sadly, I can't do this during daytime on my AH account which is about to expire at the end of this month.

Yeah, I just meant that whenever you get someone on here posting they having issues you get others with their pitchforks stating everything is perfect.

With all the "dynamic" shaping, and people getting confused on what type of user accounts they are on, when you start authoritatively posting that everything is acceptable then you need to be really, really sure of your case.

Just timed it, tried to view a 645kb jpg image & it took 3min48sec!!!!!!!!!!!! Arrrrrrggghhhhh!!!! At this rate I'm not gonna have any hair left...

Downloaded a 2.4mb webm directly after, took 8 seconds

There shouldn't be general issues at the moment. Can you PM me your username?

I don't think anyone should really be arguing cases, we're not in court :)

If someone wants to state their experience (with whatever their priorities are) that should always be fine.

Oops, they forgot to add *.webm to their shaping list.

you all think you have problems try to fix an problem that cant be detected...

So anyone else experiencing download issues last night (Sunday evening)? I could not even download a 5MB file from getgames.com. Just trying to figure out if it's my line specifically or a general issue for Cape Town users perhaps.

My first Speedtest ran OK last night with a ping of 99. Thereafter the page would not load when I wanted to retest with my FNB and then AH account again.

I think he does, because its his experience. Everyone gets to share their opinion.

I am a firm believer in that everybody can voice their opinion.
So here goes.

How does he get minimal shaping on his account?

Shaping is minimal during daytime hours, and is often unshaped during the night/early mornings
.
Do you agree that is an inaccurate statement?
Do you agree that in fact AH shapes all downloads to its fullest from 06:00 - 22:00 and that 12.5% and 6.25% leaves you with very little line speed for downloads during that time period and that dynamic shaping from 22:00 rarely lifts before 02:00 or do you classify that as light shaping?

Lets talk figures.

My 4Mbps line = 3400kbps on a speedtest.
3400kbps /8 = 425kB/s. That is what I should get on downloads.

Now apply AH light shaping and you get :
425kB/s * 12.5% light shaping from 06:00 - 22:00>

53.1kB/s for Http downloads and about 26.5kB/s for P2P

Now please explain to me how do you see that as light shaping?

Wouldn't gifs and jpegs be counted as realtime? This page has about fifteen jpegs that I can see from the source code. Also, to Mr http download is perfect for me, what speeds are you getting on what speed line, have you ever used an ISP besides afrihost and were/are you admitted to a phsychiatric hospital?

My opinion
I call BS on this "testing the network" phrase that's been used here for the past month.

I think Afrihost has reached capacity on their network and is near meltdown after all the freebies they gave earlier this year and end of last year

Crippling the Uncapped accounts is what is keeping the Capped accounts going.

I would not be surprised if they do away with Uncapped altogether and only have Capped accounts ranging from Home to Business

Only 10 sleeps before I see the back of this company

After the last 24 hours I think I am also going to cancel. Had enough now with this *temporary testing*....... I can't even complete a 300mb download since yesterday.....
