Wouldn't gifs and jpegs be counted as realtime? This page has about fifteen jpegs that I can see from the source code. Also, to Mr http download is perfect for me, what speeds are you getting on what speed line, have you ever used an ISP besides afrihost and were/are you admitted to a phsychiatric hospital?
Huh?![]()
Guys, I am also a Home Uncapped AH account holder.
Their account is the best compared to the rest of the ISP's that I have tested in various nearby locations for the price. Shaping is minimal during daytime hours, and is often unshaped during the night/early mornings.
If you download http and streaming during the day the speeds are quite acceptable.
Cut them some slack guys. Give them some time since the whole MTN thing blows over, and I believe that we can expect awsesomeness very soon again!
So anyone else experiencing download issues last night (Sunday evening)? I could not even download a 5MB file from getgames.com. Just trying to figure out if it's my line specifically or a general issue for Cape Town users perhaps.
My first Speedtest ran OK last night with a ping of 99. Thereafter the page would not load when I wanted to retest with my FNB and then AH account again.
I am a firm believer in that everybody can voice their opinion.
So here goes.
How does he get minimal shaping on his account?
.
Do you agree that is an inaccurate statement?
Do you agree that in fact AH shapes all downloads to its fullest from 06:00 - 22:00 and that 12.5% and 6.25% leaves you with very little line speed for downloads during that time period and that dynamic shaping from 22:00 rarely lifts before 02:00 or do you classify that as light shaping?
Lets talk figures.
My 4Mbps line = 3400kbps on a speedtest.
3400kbps /8 = 425kB/s. That is what I should get on downloads.
Now apply AH light shaping and you get :
425kB/s * 12.5% light shaping from 06:00 - 22:00>
53.1kB/s for Http downloads and about 26.5kB/s for P2P
Now please explain to me how do you see that as light shaping?

My opinion
I call BS on this "testing the network" phrase that's been used here for the past month.
I think Afrihost has reached capacity on their network and is near meltdown after all the freebies they gave earlier this year and end of last year
Crippling the Uncapped accounts is what is keeping the Capped accounts going.
I would not be surprised if they do away with Uncapped altogether and only have Capped accounts ranging from Home to Business
Only 10 sleeps before I see the back of this company
@AfriMan, I made a mess up trying to change from 2mbps uncapped bundle to a 2mbps capped 50GB bundle.
How do I fix it, items are greyed out now and before, which is why i made the bungle.

@Afriman, then tier your products (see MWEB premium) and in stead of so heavily shaping everyone at least burst low profile users who subsidise those looking to download the internet all day.

For instance my consumption is low but I would be willing to pay extra for network priority.
We're hoping to avoid a complex suite of products, especially that are heavily based on technical understanding of shaping and protocols. For the moment, we're of the mind that our Business and Uncapped offerings covers the broad spectrum.
If we were to look at an Uncapped product for the MyBB type user, how would you guys envision that it would work differently?

A straight shaper that doesn't discriminate at all would be just great. Something that would have low queue depths for best latency.
Shaping doesn't affect latency in any way![]()
6am to 5pm heaviest shaping, 5pm to 12am light shaping, 12am to 6am unshaped. I think this should be fair and by light shaping I mean 50% HTTP and 30% P2P. After all it is not a business account.
