Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Something new that AlwaysOn have introduced that we have to register/migrate our accounts - not sure why though but it was quiet irritating to supply email credentials etc.

I'm not aware of this issue, but I will chat with our team that deal with AlwaysOn to check if this is a new requirement :(

If we monitored the traffic on your account and verified that there was no shaping on the traffic (it would mean that we had someone at the data centre monitoring the traffic off the shaper directly while you were moving traffic) then I would be confident that shaping was not the issue.

With a game as popular as Diablo, one would expect to have a lot more complaints if we blanket shaped or misclassified traffic. It's really best to troubleshoot individually rather than assume the network is broken or something is shaped without the right kind of testing.

As i said, its only noticable with 1mb uncapped as shaping any account higher than that leaves sufficient dl capacity to meet the required 25kb/s rate of diablo 3.

Also, i have provided screenshots of bitmeter clearly showing the game traffic hitting some sort of ceiling, which was completely ignored. All im trying to do is help your company out, yet all we as customers get are rehearsed responses or being requested to do the same tests multiple times for the same results.

Looking at the complaints over the last 20+ pages of this thread, somethings not working as intended, either that or you dont want your customers money anymore.

Regardless, the only way an ISP will realise theres a problem with their offerings or that they've #%&!@? up is if we speak out via our pockets. I have done so.

Indeed. In game latency on a 10mb line going over 2000ms, when NNTP is running at 25KB/sec, and no it's my imagination.

Right.
I just walked into a Mugg And Bean for a quick coffee while waiting for a shop to open.
And seeing as I have wifi roaming active on my account - I thought I could use AlwaysOn for the first time.
I'm so glad I also brought my ****ing work 3G modem.

AlwaysOn keeps on asking me to migrate my account and does not want to accept my Hotspot password as set up on Clientzone.
I connect - select afrihost - type in my username as specified on Clientzone, type in my password, and then the whole process starts again - it keeps on asking me to migrate my account. I mean - wtf?! - So much for convenience of access.
Can anyone point me to the faq on this?

Glad I'm not the only one. Been struggling with my Afrihost account on AlwaysOn for months. Even contacted their support a few times but they're useless. Seems AlwaysOn tried to consolidate accounts and make you login with a new profile then add your various AlwaysOn logins under that, but they've messed it up royally - whenever I login with my Afrihost credentials it says login "Locked" or something unhelpful like that and my username defaults to my Afrihost user name but with my main profile email address in the @ domain part of the user name, so their system keeps rejecting it. Will cancel my AlwaysOn wifi access now as I simply can't come right with it.

Now, whenever I login to my AlwaysOn main profile account, it just says "Unknown response from server. Please try again." My last complaint to support was ignored.

We've never defaulted on our 60 day doublemoney back guarantee. But we pay back what you paid us, so discounts and credited services are not included in the refund. Also, it must be an eligible service, so Bundles (which are discounted/subsidised), Lines and Devices (amongst others) are not eligible for the claim, mostly because we've already discounted them to offer low prices.

You're welcome to PM and I will investigate the claim, and on what reasons it was rejected (whether this was done correctly or not)

You welcome to PM me....your client. I have made you aware of the issue and from n previous pm you have my account details.

In all our PM correspondence (2 PM's) you only gave me your username. Just to clarify, you had not raised the issue of your Double Money claim with me prior to this.

In any case, I will look into it and reply to you via PM :)

We'll definitely raise this with AlwaysON. If it's inconveniencing our clients and ultimately preventing access to the service, then we'll need to investigate further :(

if i move from an afrihost 10mb business uncapped to the 20mb (not business) uncapped, what are the differences in the internet experience i can expect to face?

my main concerns would be around video streaming during office hours and the use of nntp also during office hours. this on the assumption that normal web surfing experience should be the same.

Shaping would be the main difference, though I guess it depends on your needs to what extent you will experience it. A percentage of a 10Mbps line is probably a lot more for a 20Mbps line, so the throughput would be different. It will really depend on what services you are using.

Realtime services should perform at the same level (or better) considering the extra throughput for HD streaming, etc. As far as I can tell, you only need about 8Mbps max for full HD streaming, so the difference may not be noticeable.

you will be shaped on nntp, hard.

Activated Turbocharge, sitting at 120KB/s P2P on a 4Meg line. Joy.

oh

edit - what is this turbocharge and why is it needed?

although the same ratio gives 600kB/s on 20MBps

i assume that means at 12am you get full speed

My advice: Stay the F.UCK AWAY FROM Afrihost Home Uncapped. P2P is literally as useless as Zooma's brain between 6AM and 12AM. Yes, 18 hours! I repeat: STAY THE F.UCK AWAY FROM Afrihost Home Uncapped. It's ****. Turbocharge is a joke. It's not free.

Son... spare yourself lots of pain and suffering by avoiding Afrihost Home Uncapped. It's the worst SA ADSL Uncapped product right now. **** this ****  FU CAPITALISM AND EBOLA!
