Me too! Can't wait to finally be able to use the true internet again, instead of this crippled piece of crap AH is shoving down our throats...

True story. And not have Netflix or Hulu buffer every other day.

oh

edit - what is this turbocharge and why is it needed?

although the same ratio gives 600kB/s on 20MBps

i assume that means at 12am you get full speed

Turbo unshapes your line for a short time in case you wanna download something quickly during the day.

Turbocharge bypasses shaping for a set time (in increments of an hour) so you can download or torrent at full speed. You get 300 free turbocharge minutes every month, and you can topup for R29 (number of minutes depends on your line speed)

I'm not sure why anyone would buy additional turbocharges, especially if you are not on 10 or 20 meg uncapped accounts.

For 120 minutes of turbocharge (at R29), you could buy a 4+4GB capped account. And if you wanted the maximum top up of 600 minutes for R145, you could buy a 30+30GB capped account (with R20 to spare).

The prices are crazy for what you get.

That does make sense, so it's really up the individual. There's a lot more convenience to not having to change your username or use passthrough. Also, we don't limit by amount of data, just time, so it depends on how much data you expect to pull.

Wondering why I was shaped and things were so slow... checked connected devices on my router and found one that was not in my household... change the 128 key, rebooted and bandwidth back to normal usage... still sucks though for shaping

Well, calculating the 8GB one, you have to pull 1.1MB/s to achieve 8GB in 120 minutes. You will never achieve this with overheads, so it would be better to get an 8GB capped account. Only 20mbps would benefit from turbocharge.

Edit: Calculations: the cap converted into Meg's divided by minutes then converted into seconds: 8*1024/120/60 = 1.138.

But the turbo charge isn't about pulling data. It's about convenience.

This is one of the reasons SA internet is so crap. Everyone just wants to know how much they can leech off the internet.

What I am trying to say, if you need it, it's better to have an 8 GB cap that you can pull out any time, rather than 60 minute sessions.

No.

Managing cap does not equal convenience.

Having an uncapped account is convenient.

Having a shaped uncapped is cheap.

Having a shaped uncapped account that has turbos for the odd thing during the day is cheap and convenient.

Yes, but the convenience vs the cost. It's more convenient to pay less for more. I think we just disagree what's convenient for each of us, I like the idea more of having 8GB unshaped at any time of the month for however long, than being limited to 60 min pieces, when all I really want to do is get that 200MB file within the next hour.

Especially when it takes 30 minutes for the download, and you're then wasting 30 minutes.

line speed also makes a difference. 10 gb over a 20 mbps line is really not that much, at < 15 minutes per gb, 8 gb would work out exactly the same as your 120 turbocharge minutes.

Most of us don't have 20mbps.... I don't even have 10, thanks to telkom. 4mbps max in my area.

That's cheap. Not convenient.

You're forgetting that you still have uncapped to use when not turboing. When the cap runs out you are screwed. I don't consider being screwed convenient.

I use like 250-300gigs a month. 8 gigs would last 5min.

than being limited to 60 min pieces, when all I really want to do is get that 200MB file within the next hour.

That's the exact scenario that makes turbos were made for.

so turbocharge means i get an hour of unshaped?

at 2000kB/s that means pulling 6.9GB in an hour

4gb + 4gb = R29 means that you only get 8GB after midnight whereas turbocharge is at any time?

edit - so is each turbocharge for a period of an hour or can i specify how long i want it for? beacuse if i only want a gig download, then it seems to be a waste of the resource.

For me, I own a microtik roughter, login and click on AH X. Login and click on capped acc and click the right mark on capped acc and done. I can switch isp accounts in 5 seconds lol.
