Update time on my account investigation.

Critical care sent me a mail stating that I can now again switch back to my uncapped account and there should not be any further issues regarding disparity between capped and uncapped in realtime services.

Unfortunately no concrete reason could be given on what was fixed or what caused it in the first place. Will be testing tonight and over the weekend and report my results on if it actually IS fixed :)

I do hope it does work as expected. If that's the case, we can always review the changes that were made so we can flag them for the future :)

Hi there AfriMan

Send you a PM when you get a chance buddy :)

Getting terrible performance on Supersport streaming lately, anybody else struggling?

Unfortunately after Critical Care had my account for 2 weeks and I had a chance to test it again tonight nothing has changed.

Youtube is still just as messed up as it was 2 weeks ago.

Now here is the interesting bit.

When I logged in with my uncapped account after not being in use for 2 weeks my shaping profile was NO SHAPING. Right. YouTube ran 100% - full speed. After it detected the account was active and applied the shaping profile...guess what? Youtube SUCKED...again...as I expected. Switched back to capped account and whalla - YouTube back to 100%.

Now honestly I have no damn idea what MORE evidence you people at Afrihost need to just accept the reality that there is a problem with your shaping interfering with youtube!

Here are the screen shots.

Clear as day difference and tracert's are perfect on both accounts. Problem is with Afrihost.

The above has been passed onto Critical Care as well.

Are you guys shaping steam?
I'm on 2mbp uncapped. EA origin goes at nearly full speed but Steam is downloading at average 23 KB/S

Account back with CC and their network guys are investigating again. Back on alternative account till further notice.

Sorry to hear that. Are your general streaming services working well? What do you see on speedtests for local throughput?

Everything else working well and speedtests showing line is running as should.

It's odd because I've tested YouTube myself on a shaped account and I've gotten very different results. Without turbocharging I've always gotten full throughput on a 4Mbps Uncapped account, and viewed vids on 720p without buffering. Have you tried using a different 4mBps Uncapped account, perhaps the account itself is not performing properly?

Yes I have.

It works perfectly on any of your competitors and I will say this again - when my uncapped account showed no shaping it ALSO ran fine. When shaping was applied - it was terrible. So now we have the case where the only variable that was introduced was the shaping profile and performance deteriorated. Don't need much thought to connect these dots.

We would shape steam downloads as a non-realtime service, but not any gaming itself.

Uhm...correction. If the game uses P2P protocols you also shape it and make it unplayable as has been demonstrated quite a few times. Then it needs to be investigated and whitelisted or you just have to deal with it as a player.

I don't think any official steam games use P2P. Generally most games do not. But yes, if they have a P2P signature in their traffic packets, they would be shaped unless we know about them or can verify and then exclude them from the shaping rules.

I meant trying a new 4Mbps account on your profile, instead of the account you have been using. I'm just wondering why it would work for me and not you, unless there is something specific to your account. I think it's worth a try and has worked for one or two other clients :(
