My speed test is equally effected but if i unshape with turboboost it works perfectly. so please whats happening with european game servers. my traceroutes are fine but my speed is super slow in kuilsriver, u asked me for traceroutes. the fact that it works perfectly when unshapped means its working properly so it must be the shapping happening. i'm not upset i just want someone to look into the dynamic shaping. its 11.24 how can shapping on game servers be like this. it doesnt seem real

I'm not aware of any 2Mbps specific policy issues. Business is also definitely not shaped and that has not changed at any time.

It sounds like we haven't done the correct troubleshooting here to find the cause of your poor experience. While we are seeing some periods of high demand, I don't think your experience should be degraded to that extent. I really don't believe that this is anything to do with incorrect policies and I apologise if the response you received is causing some confusion.

Drop me a PM so we can try and sort this out :(

Well I gave Afrihost the same information as GunBlade and i get almost the same response almost every time... "Everything looks good on our side, try rebooting your router, we have re-synced your line on our side" blah blah whatever....

I'm on the 2MB Business uncapped and have been complaining since day one that my online gaming sucks 90% of the time.
(Diablo 3 lat @ 280ms doing nothing in town... ~500ms, running around town... 3000+ms trying to fight some mobs)

I received a little gem the other day from an Afrihost rep and I quote:

"Unfortunately there is a problem with our shaping policy on 2Mbps Uncapped Account/Business Uncapped DSL. This has been an ongoing issue that no resolution has been established yet."

SO, tell me Afrihost how can your admin team that my complaint got escalated to say everything is working 100%

Not only that but "shaping policy on 2Mbps Uncapped Account/Business Uncapped DSL" what?? Thought you said there was no shaping policy.

And lets not mention I can barely stream 144p YouTube vids and my HTTP downloads sit @ sub 20kbps. Oh wait i mentioned it :P

(...snipped video...)

I'm having the same problems in Amanzimtoti which according to the "Network Status" informational to be not affected here in KZN. I am on the 2mbps BUSINESS uncapped (i pay premium to get premium, or thats what I thought). Online games especially Smite is a no-go... I have been branded in-game as a deserter a few times now because of the immense lag experienced. average of 350ms with spikes into the 400 and 500ms range... it gets so bad sometimes the in-game menu would not respond.

Did the unthinkable last night - got myself a free WA account, logged onto it, tried Smite, got between 200 and 209ms average with no lag spikes, and that together with running teamspeak I could actually get a game or two in...

I love Afrihost but my enthusiasm is beginning to wane a bit. C'mon Afrihost get your house in order...

I'm really sorry that performance has been poor. We do seem to have seen some high demand over last night and this morning and our team are reviewing our policies to ensure that we are managing traffic as efficiently as possible.

We definitely don't want to shape legitimate gaming traffic. The only problem is that many P2P services are disguised as gaming traffic and causes our shaping to miss traffic that should be shaped to the benefit of the rest of the network's users.

We'll need to test with you to see if this traffic is in fact being mis-classified and then review our policies to see if we can improve your experience.

Getting pretty tired of "high demand" to be honest. When high demand lasts as long as it has, you need to realise that it's not high demand anymore, it's normal demand.

Lately it seems like one thing after the other.

Why are you then allowing more people to sign up when your network cannot cope with the load? It was so bad I got pings of 1500+ in WOW. not happy. Oddly enough steam behaved kinda OK before 8 this morning.

We're definitely aware of the impact of additional signups, but we don't believe this has a significant impact. The bulk of demand is consistent with existing clients demanding more bandwidth.

Obviously a sustained increased in demand becomes the norm over time. However we've seen demand decrease significantly since the last Apple release, and the software improvements we've made have also greatly improved performance. We'll continue to work on this until we get it right. Unfortunately today there is an issue with policies not working effectively at the moment :(

I am also experiencing bad pings for online gaming and constantly getting disconnected because my pings are to high but when surfing web or watching videos i have no problems at all.

It looks like we are making some changes to address the shaping issues I mentioned with our policies. It looks like latency may possibly have spiked very briefly, but things seems stable at the moment.

Is there any diagnostics I can see to gauge your latency?

So you have x number of users fighting for a piece of the interweb pie (lets make it an apple interweb pie) and they are currently not very happy with the piece they are getting. Now you allow x to grow thus adding more pie-fighters to the mix resulting in more unhappy customers. This does not make sense.

So you admit that your network is taking strain and your solution is to shape us to death. how long will this continue before you admit you need more interweb pie?

I think we all need to write to ASA because we are not seeing any internet joy.

I think it's important to note that I am not making the decisions here. Our technical team are reviewing all the available options and as soon as there is confirmed information to update clients on the next steps we'll be taking. If that includes upgrading capacity, then we will definitely report that once it's confirmed.

Noted. But the feedback we've been getting does not answer some of the more serious questions.

I can also understand that you have been taking a fair amount of abuse and strain but Afrihost is currently causing a lot of frustration. We are not receiving the service we are paying for.

I hear you, AfriMan, and once again I want to stress that I have no problems with streaming at all... It's the SINGLE reason I'm still with you (AfriHost). However, the download speeds CONSTANTLY being throttled is starting to get old.

AfriMan, did your live chat support die? Seems like its not working ATM, or is it overworked?

I was still busy typing a few questions (yes I was behaving myself) when your support guy just stopped chatting, needless to say after 10 minutes of waiting the session was killed. It doesnt even open now.... sigh

Just wondering what the average usage in GB is on this package per month is, anyone mind telling me?

It shouldn't have, looks up and running to me.
Sorry about the frustrations, drop me a PM and I'll have your query followed up :)

Hi Afriman;Afriguy

I have a 2mb business bundle account has been heavily shaped since this morning; and I would just like to know why? Web traffic seems to run fine but all our P2P and online gaming traffic has been shaped into the ground. Client-zone states that no shaping is being applied but this doesn't seem to be the case at all.
