It does sound like it, although it's a bit odd that changing around accounts seems to normalise things.
What area are you in?
Durban.
Latency does look quite high in the regionOnce our improvements have been implemented I'm confident you'll see a much better experience.
You guys have an ETA on that, btw?
1st weekend with Afrihost and it's the worst internet I've ever had. Can load absolutely nothing on that account.
Hi,
was on uncapped adsl. Google search, youtube ,gmail was terrible over Chrome. I actually never tested another browser. youtube on mobile phone over adsl was very slow and timed out most of the time. In the Rivonia area.
Morning everyone
I know that, from reading reports here and on social media, that performance over the weekend seems to have been very dismal. I personally couldn't do much on YouTube, and even just running speedtest was pretty awful.
Strange this is that our graphs on demand and latency showed that performance should have been great over the weekend, so we're not entirely sure what exactly went wrong here.
I saw many clients complain about Gmail and Google services. Does anyone have specifics for me, like which product this happened on and was it over DSL and Mobile? Also, please include your location and which Google service specifically was not working (Gmail was working for me, but YouTube was pretty dismal)![]()
Tried using Youtube on Chrome and on Android. Both absolutely horrible. I even got "Could not connect to server" on both my Android devices. Google Earth Pro was unusable.
Ping however was completely fine over the weekend.
Did anything change if you used a different browser? What DNS were you using?
I did not try other browsers unfortunately. The issue was persistent throughout the weekend on all YouTube clips. It would fluctuate wildly but never exceed ~800kbit. Multiple times clips just stopped using the net. As already said even the separate Google Earth Pro program had issues. I couldn't get speeds higher than ~200kbit.
I was using the standard Afrihost DNS. Auto DNS. 196.7.7.7.
Uncapped, Pinelands Cape Town. At one point had problems with YouTube, Google Search, Gmail. Even the Google DNS server seemed to be timing out (8.8.8.8)
Neither YouTube nor Google Earth are stellar this morning.
Would it be fair to say that only Google stuff was being weird?
