We did see latency spike yesterday afternoon at about 4pm or just after that, especially in the South. Where were you connecting from?

Pretoria

Link went down at 3am but back up now and seems better.

Looks pretty decent now for 4Mbps :)

Hey guys

Just a quick one, progress is being made :)
I've pasted a link at the bottom of this post where you can fill in your info and get things ready for the testing. This won't open a test account for you immediately, we're collecting details for existing clients - we'll have DSL details passed on as soon as they're available.

I'm still confused by all this and I can't be botehred to go through the long and tiresome rant thread that is Gian's thread.

My question is, what is this? What is the new network? How does it differ to the current network? Most importantly, when this all settles will I still get full speed YouTube at all times? :D

BTW ping is horrible again. 250ms at the 3rd hop.

I can't go into much detail at this stage, but to summarise:

  • We're setting up two POC networks for testing, and implementation
  • This will allow us to grow the network further both now and for the long term
  • Long term sustainability via new products and pricing

Implementing this is a solution for the current issues.

You guys can feck off and nothing of value will be lost.

Explain for us how will this help us. How will this impact us.

Not a happy camper, I have changed my package on the 23rd of last month from 10mpbs capped to 2mpbs uncapped all the confirmations was sent to and from with confirmations and all long story short come first of the month I am billed for 10mpbs line with a 2mpbs uncapped package. Have spoken to help desk and was told I should have changed my line as well separately, nobody, in all comms suggested that. What is the use of a 2mpbs uncapped package and you still stuck on a 10mpbs line?? Threads of cancelling and refusing debit orders fell on deaf ears what is this.. a means to get extra income T oday it was now changed to a 2mpbs line after I have paid for a 10mpbs line with no refunds. TOTAL RIPOFF

Sorry you feel that way, Noah. My reports show that performance should have been mostly fine over this weekend, in terms of latency. Unfortunately I did not test myself as we're all looking to test the new networks as quickly as possible to have them ready for clients :(

Which of the POC networks we end up working with, we'll be able to offer more added value as we'll be able to have more direct control over the network. We'll also be cutting our lots of administrative steps in terms of upgrading our infrastructure. We're also planning to use ore advanced hardware and software to improve our traffic recognition to make shaping as smooth and seamless as possible, which means that services which should be shaped will not affect the network as they currently are.

This is absolutely not the case, we don't want to confuse our clients to get a bit of extra cash. I do always advice clients that they should always treat their line and data as separate products. After all you can cancel your data but keep your line with us and vice versa. Some client don't want to be restricted and not be able to use the products in the way they see fit. Some prefer a smaller uncapped account for their families for stability and cost saving, but want the faster line to use PPP connections for their main machine for priority services, with plenty of line capacity to spare. We find it's better to simply leave it up to the client in that sense.

Happy to check out what happened and advise you if you want to send me a PM :(

Things must be really bad at the moment, switched over to my Telkom account a few days ago because even on "Turbocharge" I was only receiving 10kb/s

Had a look at my account now and I'm still being throttled after not using the account for days

We don't throttle, so it's odd that you're seeing that kind of thing. What exactly are you testing? Can you post some results?

I was referring to the shaping, please excuse me for getting the terminology wrong.

P2P Shaping has been sitting at 6.25% for days now even though my account has been out of use. I'd use to be able to turbo charge to get decent P2P speeds but even that doesn't work anymore

Shaping definitely isn't happening 24/7 - it is easing up after hours :)
