Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

When you do your new prices - please be super aggressive with capped - I would love a good 150gb package. Feel free to pass on the Management - Lol. :)

We'd like to offer some great value on Uncapped and Capped, but Capped usually gets a little more attention because you can offer a per GB rate (which is a big selling point). But we'll be aiming to offer great value across the board. We basically don't ever want clients to choose products on price, but their own requirements. Essentially the value for money should be the same - if that makes sense :)

I just want to give a little feedback that might be more useful for someone that is still considering AH as an ISP.

I moved from my previous ISP and joined AH Home uncapped on the 5th of February.
I did not leave them because of the troubles they are experiencing and have been experiencing since late December. This can happen to any ISP.
I won't bash my previous ISP as had mostly good service for many, many years.

I left because the communication from was severely lacking and when there were communication it was mostly bull****.
So because of a lack of communication and leaving me in the dark ito what was going on and no time frame for the repairs, I decided to leave.

I had a hick-up the 1st 2 days, where I received the same poor speed with AH as with my previous ISP.
Not sure what happened, but suddenly it was rectified. It was not my line or exchange, as I did receive full speed on my AH capped account.

Since then it has been plain sailing, till yesterday when something went south in the South.
The best part? I received a message from AH, before I even came aware of the problem.

Later the evening I saw I was severely shaped, by looking at my CP in the clientzone. This was the first time I experienced shaping on the uncapped account since my move to uncapped, but once again I had info to work with, because it stated that I was being shaped on my downloads. I tested it and received 30-70kB/s on my http download, shaped to 18.25 of line capacity (4Mbps). Real time services was still working good.

This morning it was back to normal and no shaping so far.

I've had a capped account AH account for many years, which I used as a backup account and it have never let me down.

So far I'm very impressed with how the uncapped account is running and even more impressed with how the customers are dealt with.

I'm not blind to some faults. I also have some hosting account with AH and lately the support suck a bit.
The telephone ques are long and the live support seems like a gimmick.
However once again I received communication indicating that there was a man power problem that it is being attended too.

Once again communication. Now I know they are aware of the problem and I 'm willing to cut them some slack as my hosting requirements aren't that serious and does no provide income for me. If nothing improves in the next month then I will contemplate looking for another hosting provider.

For now I can wait a while.

I tend to be loyal to friends and companies that give me good service.
I know many guys say they have no loyalty and will vote with their wallet and I can't fault that school of thought. I do tend to give some benefit of doubt if you have proved yourself previously.

I also know there will be scores of people that might not have experienced that same level of service satisfaction.
That is how things work. A lot of errors can pop up in the process of connecting to the Net and it is not always that easy to pinpoint the problem and sometime the wrong people are blamed due to misinformation or a lack of knowledge.

At this stage AH has provided me with many years of good service ito my capped account and hosting and now about 2 weeks of uncapped and sometimes the ISP screws up.

Keep up the level of communication, service delivery and innovation and I will keep on punting AH to new users.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. As much as I love to hear positive feedback, I really appreciate when I see a balanced account of someone's experience with it's up and downs that ultimately shows that, even when there have been problems, Afrihost is still the right company for them.

Thanks a million for posting this, totes made my day :)

Afriman - this is South Africa - You are not allowed to speak sense here!!! Bladdy (Afrihost) Agent :p:D

Yes, Uncapped and Business are limited to a single concurrent connection and are locked to the last number (CLID) used for 24 hours. Thereafter any number should be able to connect to the account (but only ever one number at a time)

Sorry I should have elaborated more, I am talking about active TCP/UDP connections, such as running torrents which creates many concurrent connections as it connects to many peers.

Is there a limit on Home Uncapped?

If you're talking about threads within a single DSL connection, then no. As far as I am aware, there is no limit. It's takes a toll on the network, so I do encourage everyone to run torrents after hours as often as possible :)

Is it just me or has Afrihost been slow lately? I'm talking about the last two weeks or so. I have a 2MB line and a 2MB uncapped Afrihost account and the performance on it lately has been poor.

Games have terrible ping (Battlefield 3, DOTA2) and HTTP downloads in general have been slow. Anyone else experiencing this?

Even their Turbo Charge thingy doesn't help much with pings. (but there is an improvement).

Durban.

Well im only had mine for a week. well its fantastic, torrents +- 200Kbs on my 2mb line.

but then again im used to mtn uncapped?

I'm happy to say that my speeds (in Cape Town) are blistering. When I log onto my other account (different ISP) then things mostly dont work.
Back on AH - blistering.

Big up to AH - guys on the instant chat are very helpful --> Everything so far (touch wood) experienced with AH is working for me.

It depends on what is causing the slow speeds. We haven't seen a general slow down on the network, especially in the East (durban).

Have you run our network test app?

That's awesome. Sounds like you're pushing your line to the limit. Now isn't it time to think 4Mbps? ;)

Awesome - and also glad to hear you're getting great backup support as well. I think we're starting to see a return the service levels we're known for :)

It's really just game ping thats really really bad. Just finished another game of DOTA 2 and got pings between 400 - 2000ms +

Local server? If so - sounds like exchange issues :/ Try running the Afrihost support tool and posting the results here please :)

Timeouts and high pings after the 3rd hop, this should point towards an account / network fault
