Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

I see Afrihost are giving free bonus data to capped accounts, yet there's no capacity for users in the South (due to major shaping and waiting for Telkom). Uncapped is about to get alot worse

4Mbps Home uncapped

Local is fine.
International is ****ed.

Get your uncapped **** together AH

This looks like throttling to me?
And yes I know you shape, and don't throttle, but why the discrepancy between Capped and uncapped on a speed test account?

Seems like the logical thing to do. When your uncapped clients complain about how ****ty their service is, give your capped clients bonus data.

Are you talking about torrents downloads or your download speeds on speedtest?

Can you post your Network Test App results?

Yes I'm talking about torrent downloads.

I know the uncapped accounts are advertised as semi-shaped but it's a bit weird that out of a 10mbps line i can only get maximum 98kbps on torrent downloading.
When i'd just sign up for my uncapped account I enjoyed at the very least 850 kbps downloads.
Though it still wasn't close to half the speed (which I get) I was satisfying.
Now I feel like what is called semi shaped is actually HARD CORE SHAPED, especially when in the first week of sign up everything was fine...

This is the way I work out what I should get.
I have a 4Mbps line, so on speedtest I get about 3400kbps
3400 /100 = 340 x shaping %(18.8 currently)
I usually use an online convertor to convert the result to kB/s

If I can't download at that speed, I try to find out why, ie slow torrent or somebody else on my LAN.

If I can't find a logical answer, I start fighting with AH.

As it is I haven't gotten full sperd on international today Friday and even now it only goes up to about 2.4Mbps.

I think Afrihost is struggling.

Hey thanks for the reply.

I've followed your calculations so to speak.
I have a 10mbps line, speedtest gives me about 6500 kbps.
6500/100 == 65 * 6.25% == 406.25 kB/s [ 6.25% would be my p2p shapping]

Is this correct ? If yes my p2p downloads are nowhere close to that value :(

Thus I should be fighting with AH right now lol.

I'm really considering switching to one of their capped accounts and seek uncapped elsewhere.

Remember your bits and bytes.

6500kbps (bits) divide by 8 to get bytes = 812.5kBps * 6.25% = 52.8125kB/s.

Yes, AH is struggling.

My business account is very sluggish this morning. YouTube streaming and browsing leave a lot to be desired.

Download speeds are okay though.

@Afrihost

I'm currently shaped to 6.25% on P2P.
I'm getting 10 - 13kB/s on a NZb.

According to my speedtest (3.4Mbps), I should be able to get 26kB/s being shaped to 6.25%
Why am I not flat lining at 26kB/s?

My download speed actually seems realistic to be more like 1.5 Mbps - 1.8Mbps

My tracert show no problems.

Edit:
Capped account peeks at 424kB/s and average at 414kB/s.
So definitely nothing wrong with my line or from where I download.

I'm just not getting my speeds what I am supposed get, as stated in the client zone, on the Semi permanent shaping Home capped account.

This has nothing to do with the IPC that will come 'soon".

It seems to me that the shaping info is incorrect in the Clentzone or I am being throttled by AH on line speed.

Same here, all my other capped accounts are consistent with DSLAM value, 800 kbps to the very least, which means my line is fine.

My normal download speeds are also consistent. The p2p shapping is just very brutal.

Yes.
My point is that I'm not even getting the shaped speeds and that is bugging me.

As you say, the shaping is severe and I would expect to max out at the shaped speeds, but I'm getting 50% of the claimed shaped speeds. That is day light robbery.

Please run this and post results here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/576445-quot-Help-me-fix-my-internet-quot-report-tool

This time, we are not checking for line issues, but rather for the accelerated download test (Which should always max out your capacity) :)

It will be helpful

I'm not at my pc atm, but will give it a go. The capped account did max my line speed though.

I know what you mean about not getting the shaping speed. Oh well - hopefully we can figure it out :)

Home uncapped 4Mbps Eastern Cape

AH capped account:

Can you try staying logged into your cap account for a while (in the router), like an hour, then log back into the uncapped account and repeat the test?

EDIT: Make a note of your uncapped IP and make sure it's different after the hour.
