The good news is that 5 - 10kB/s for P2P is normal for AH every day, excluding the ghost hours. (If you are shaped to 6.25%)Ran the test again (no peerblock this time) but still got the ping errors. I just use win8 firewall. Perhaps I need to run it as admin?
Oh and the whole day I've been shaped. P2P around 5-10kb/s...on a Sunday.
I thought the additional capacity was implemented in middle Feb? Did I miss something?
AfriGuy,
Can someone please explain why I can't stream YouTube at 720p on a 10mbps uncapped connection? It keeps on buffering. Cape region. Traceroutes are all normal (in fact they're very good). Shaping is at 12/6% at the moment. Since YouTube is a realtime service, it either means the routing is screwed or that there is an actual capacity issue that affects realtime services despite of the shaping.
You see, the shaping is bad enough, but I understand that you're waiting for IPC capacity from Telkom. I know that's not your fault, even though it's annoying to the n'th degree and we're anxiously waiting for Telkom to give you that extra IPC capacity. But realtime services being affected is starting to tickle my goat now. Especially at the super-premium prices we're paying for uncapped at the moment.
When prices were discussed in the forum awhile back, you mentioned that in the end Afrihost clients always win. As in we get what we pay for, and that it's well worth it. I agree, I have no issue paying more than I would for other ISP's in exchange for some great service provision that tops the competition. My question then is, when DO we start "winning"?
Hi there Afri-People
Just want to know when this is going to happen? This article is a month old now. Should you maybe have waited closer to the time of actually having something in mind or on the table before giving this information. You always want to be the innovators and usually you are but I don't want you to fall behind the pack.

The Silence is deafening.
Maybe I should say AH is awesome and even when they shape, you receive double the speed they indicate in the CZ.
Maybe that will bring out a rep that will answer all posts made over the weekend and this morning.
I totally agree. The uncapped side in the South is a mess lately (but lately I mean for a couple months). I am just seeing if they are going to do actually drop their prices or hold us on a line for a long time with their "soon". Just waiting on the prices to see where to go for capped and leave this nightmare. I have great service from Afriman and his crew in the past but when you got a wife working from home and trying to download some tutorials to get up and running and getting 30kb/s and then hearing - why did you choose this internet (I assume ISP) - nothing is working. I am the one getting it - not the ISP.![]()
