Not only do they add more customers, they also give away a load of free capacity, which according to AH they are short of, and then they need to shape us.
I'm sure our team has allocated this in.

The shaping stats should feed directly from our shaping systems, so there should be no delay, unless we're talking about milliseconds. These also feed directly into our internal support systems, so we definitely try to ensure no delays.
Could it be an issue with the download itself?

The question is during times where people who pay for the service are experiencing very poor network quality, should free bandwidth accounts be allocated in to anything? I'm leaning towards an answer of no. I'm sure those using the free accounts would disagree, but they won't do much good at generating profits for Afrihost if all the irritated paying customers leave because of the shaping.
That is a load of b*****ks. If you took all the capacity you have given away for free and split it between all the unshaped accounts (who have already paid for that capacity but are not being allowed to use it) then at least some of the shaping would be eased. We believe we're able to provide the best possible overall experience during this time. Re-looking the free 1GB accounts, double data and other products that have been brought up here won't make a difference to ease the shaping - unfortunately the already ordered capacity can change that![]()

This simply isn't the case here, and I don't think it's fair to make a statement like this without extensive knowledge of our IPC.
Somebody that has a 100GB capped account suddenly gets given another 100GB's to use before the end of the month, what do you think they will do?
I know what I would, let that copper glow (depleting IPC even more).
Again, this was factored in and we saw the heavier shaping before this.
Remember that this capacity was ordered last year, with additional capacity being requested while we've been waiting for the capacity to be delivered by Telkom.
So, what you're saying is that Telkom is taking longer than anticipated to do the IPC upgrade so you just had to release the double your capped offer just because if was on the calendar to-do list in the office?
That's putting the cart before the horse.
You should have waited.
No, we don't run a business like this. And again, I don't think it's fair to throw around speculation unless you have facts and information to back this up.
It was discussed and agreed after many discussion that we'd go ahead with this - it has very little to no affect on the shaping queries being brought up.
That's interesting. Please explain why it has little to no affect on the shaping queries being brought up?
Afrihost promises the 1Gb capped account for free forever. Yet if you cancel your account, this free service also goes up in a puff of smoke. I'm starting to see a pattern of fake promises, claims of no shaping when there is etc....That is a load of b*****ks. Because as we've mentioned before, we've seen a delay in having the capacity delivered.
It has been calculated that with or without the double data (or any other product or product change) the shaping situation we're seeing now will be no different.

I think what a number of people here, including myself, are confused about is how taking some people (free users) off the network could possibly not give those left on it (paid users) a better experience.
I understand the fact that the pending capacity upgrades will help, and that they were delayed, but surely having fewer people using a fixed amount of capacity will mean each person has access to more of it, and therefore experiences less shaping. That seems logical to me.
