Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

There is this thread on another gaming forum where you state your highs and lows of the day.

High: I've been using a borrowed uncapped account the last 4 or 5 days in March, which worked as it should.
Low: I'm back on AH uncapped.

Not sure I like this game :(

Seriously though - I think that's an awesome day (as long as we keep it honest) ;)

Enough is enough

Have not used the account for last 5 or 6 days, still strict shaping

Exactly. I'm wondering what point crawler is making by saying that. It's well known that Afrihost is shaping due to a lack of capacity at present. He could stop using the account for far longer. That's not going to make a difference.

Please remember though that your shaping policy does not change if you are not connected. So if you are shaped at X% when you last disconnect, you will be on the same policy when you connect again, regardless of demand. Once you move data, the system calculates where you need to be and re-classifies you and adjusts accordingly.

This prevents the system shaping people who are not connected and thereby thinking it has managed demand to a far lesser degree than the actual and causing delays in managing latency and bandwidth demand.

Has the IPC arrived?
I'm maxing out my line?
Not constantly, but I'm in the 300kB/s> range and every now and then goes up to 425kB/s or is it just a fluke?
Shaping still shows 18.8% & 6.25%

Edit:
@Afiman.
Thank for looking at my account details.
It still does not reflect in the CZ, but I assume it will be updated at some stage.

Wish I could say yes, but as far as I can see it hasn't happened yet :(

Client zone says I've moved 2gb this month.. was shaped below 25% i think :( I had a whole 4kb per second on my download. Turbo charged now but i guess the network is under strain.

Might switch to my capped account when the turbo runs out...

I've always been somewhat confused as to how exactly the shaping policies work. Could you please explain this?

Basically we monitor the network and demand at any given time. If demand is low, we don't shape. If it's high enough, we shape. Once we decide to shape, we start shaping the heaviest users to the lightest users, but we stop shaping once we've hit a "sweet spot" which indicates maximum bandwidth to users, especially real times services, but no latency. Then we review again. If demand has increased, we start to shape more users, from heaviest to lightest. If demand has decreased, we start unshaping users from lightest to heaviest. So light users may never experience shaping, and heavy users may experience minimal shaping if demand on the network is low.

Thanks, that makes sense.

And ito heaviest to lightest users?
How is this determined?
Is it real time usage or history?
If history, what time frame?

It could be some data accounting that was received a little later than usual - depends on when we get them from Telkom :(
