And ito heaviest to lightest users?
How is this determined?
Is it real time usage or history?
If history, what time frame?

We use their download/usage pattern which is essentially GB's moved/overtime - for the time they are physically connected to the network. So it's not on a threshold or over a rolling window. So someone with a smaller usage total over a short period of time could potentially (rarely is though) be considered more aggressive than someone with a larger total over a longer period of time.

It will be that way soon - wish I could just go and install the IPC myself. Wonder if you can build an IPC card with Meccano parts?

I think cobble stone, Red stone and a few red stone torches would be a better option ;)

What region does Edenvale/Bedfordview fall under for AH? Im guessing it would be Eastern Region?

Thank you.

I see the pattern...

MWEB->Throttling ->huge sudden move to Afrihost-> No capacity -> New ISP -> Some issue with new ISP ->AH Fixes capacity issue -> Everyone on new ISP cries ->Moves back to AH -> ∞

I can see this being the case soon :D

Wouldn't be hard to believe. It's a shame everyone can't just spread out among the ISPs and remain that way, evenly distributing the load.

On a separate note, I wonder how the top bandwidth users from the Afrihost leaderboard are managing to download so much considering the circumstances.

Either JHB users or they are some of the people who are not being affected down here in the cape :)

How is it that some people in the South aren't affected?

Edit: Well, I can't even load 360p YouTube videos without them pausing to buffer so I guess it's back to my MWEB account. Again.

Honestly I expected realtime services to at least be fine.

It's all the torrents, http downloads, streaming etc... in your area maybe for people connected to Afrihost? Basically Afrihost for instance has 40mbps for your area, 10 people subscribe for 10 4mbps accounts and everything is fine, then 30 more people in your area joins because mweb throttles, so now even when these 40 4mbps account holders stop torrenting and just use real-time services, the network can not keep up with demand, that's how I see it anyway. Lets face it, being voted nr1 ISP of the year, having good pricess and all will hav this impact in certain areas. Look at Digichilli back in the day, they were overwhelmed and did not have enough data to supply the demand.

Those stats were built up before the bandwidth crisis. :)

Sounds like an awesome movie plot - I think Brad Pitt should play me ;)

At the end of the day, it's all about where you feel more comfortable. My feeling from being on multiple networks is that all ISP's have these growth pains. I don't think existing users moving across ISPs is really that significant - there slow and steady increase in demand for bandwidth is much more prevalent. Especially when the lower tiers are upgraded, that has a huge impact. Studies have shown that upgrades above 4Mbps, for example, have less impact on demand than upgrades to lower speeds. It significantly alters usage behaviour and patterns.

That's pretty difficult to answer, I think it's really a contention issue. Basically, logic would dictate that when two parties contend, they would each get 50%, but it's not always that clean. If you then think there are 50 parties contending, it could be an unequal mix depending on the quality of their lines, priority of their service demand, the time of their requests and all kinds of other stuff - it would be very complex to try to predict :(
