Is there anywhere we can b*tch at telkom? I understand the situation for Afrihost must suck. Imagine trying to sell ice cream when the farmer won't give you milk (ok weird analogy) maybe if enough of us complain they will do something...

I don't think that this is the right way to approach it - but we'll definitely follow appropriate channels and make sure we put as much pressure as we can (with MTN's assistance) on Telkom to make sure that they delivery as soon as they possibly can.

As a salesman, you never sell anything if you don't have stock ;)
In fact, you don't even advertise it, unless you know for sure that the stock will be there when your prospective client needs it :wtf:

I don't think Telkom will take too kindly to that. With us you could pause your service if you're worried about something like that.
That's my point, if anyone did something similar telkom wouldn't be too happy about it yet we have to deal with them doing just that. But I will give afrihost some props, p2p is miserable but real time is performing better than another isp I tested.

I'm glad to hear that - our aim is to try to deliver the best experience under the circumstances, so great realtime speeds is a small win :)

The problem I'm having with this though, is that I'm getting 600kbps instead of 3.4Mbps.

So im shaped to 18.8% on http and 6.25% on P2P and effectively throttled from 3400kbps down to 600kbps.

So that is a tripple whammy. Once again I'm not fighting.
I'm stating facts.
Even the turbo thingy is useless as I might be unshaped for those minutes, but I'm still only getting 600kbps.

There is nothing wrong with my line or exchange.

Sounds like you're getting the worst of the possible experiences. You're already shaped and also experiencing contention, if the speed you mentioned is on realtime services as well. :(

I am sorry but I find that hard to believe. It's the
To my knowledge
part that bothers me the whole afternoon.

This is the Wholesale division of Telkom. And this IPC deal involves a lot of money. This is not Telkom telling you that they going to install your land line (valued at a few odd hundred rand) and then don't without giving a reason.

This is what I meant with transparency, from a managerial level. I can understand that from a business strategy perspective Afrihost might not be able to divulged the real reason why it has not been delivered. However, this might count against Afrihost in the end. I feel most clients will be a lot more at ease if there was more transparency.

And I feel for you Afriman. I understand you represent the company and you are just doing your job. This is not aimed at you, rather at Afrihost as a company. I think a little bit of honesty will go a long way in retaining your customers, especially those who hang on dearly and refuse to jump ship. :)

That is all the detail that I have. To my knowledge Telkom have not given us a reason for the delay, they have simply confirmed the postponement and new delivery date.

There is really no conspiracy here - and if you think about there is no possible outcome that would really work for us this way. We've already made the financial commitments for the upgrade, so it doesn't really benefit us to delay.

This really just landed on us today - prior to this, even this morning, we were assured that the upgrade would be going ahead today :(

I still believe Telkom Wholesale would of at least let MTN and in turn you know that their technicians need more time to do X or Z. If Afrihost in all honesty weren't told a single reason, then I am sure somewhere along the line someone is covering someones butt. :P I am not saying there is a conspiracy, I'm just saying when that much money is flowing, there is always a reason for everything. ;)

I think the business relationship between Afrihost and MTN, is not what I think it should be

If there is a reason, it's not being shared with us at this point in time. And we have a great relationship with MTN, so I don't believe they would withhold any information from us. They also follow MyBB pretty keenly, so I know they're aware of the kind of reaction we get for bad news like this. They're always very forthcoming with sharing information.

Sadly, its for that exact reason why you haven't received reasons :)

I must add, I appreciate you still communicating to me on this topic. If Afrihost does in fact not know the true reason then someone else does not want the bad media rap. Its a pity that thats the case because then Afrihost is taking the heat for someone else. :(
