They are home accounts though. Designed for people that are at work during the day and only get home after hours.
If you work is your home you should consider a business account.

Our accounts have always worked like this though. Before the additional capacity more shaping was seen and we had to shape later. This shouldn't be the case now.

If there is no shaping from 19:00 PM until 07:00 AM I will be satisfied
It's not determined on time, but rather network load. That's why before the capacity upgrades, shaping would last longer

I would effectively get more bandwidth out of a 2MB business account if I used it primarily for downloading and Afrihost would make less per month out of me as a client?
That's not what we're wanting to achieve or portray in our products.
A Home Uncapped account is subject to shaping, along with shaping based on demand allows us to keep realtime services unshaped, this is all dictated by loads.
I'm sure we could unshape everyone at 7pm every night and see the contention go through the roof and the overall experience worsen. Everything is in place here to allow our clients the best possible experience.
If this Uncapped account works for you, then that's awesome. We aren't forcing anyone to move to a different account or change their online habits. If you solely rely on an unshaped connection due to business needs or anything else we can't recommend a Home Uncapped account. Some days it'll be unshaped, others not.
It's all up to what you want to do online and what you demand from the account.

Yeah - this seems fair - 1mbps account (CPT) shaped with only 9GB used all month and <1GB over the last week:
This account is basically never unshaped and absolutely nothing changed after the IPC "upgrade". The current 50% Download/37.5% P2P is basically the best scenario - by evening it will be shaped to effectively nothing again.
Do you mean to tell me that 1GB/week (~12GB this month) of usage is considered high enough to have shaping applied?
Beyond fscking ridiculous, sorry.

As Afriman just said in his second last post, shaping is not based on how much you use or have used this month. It is dependent on how much pressure the network is under as a whole. So you could basically say, the rest of the countries Afrihost clients are to blame for your shaping. Just remember, you are paying for a shaped contended service. That's just the reality...
It's actually a combination, from what I've understood based on comments by the Afrireps in this thread. Afrihost starts shaping their "heavy users" first, and this filters down to the lower ones. If 9GB is enough to shape garp to the extend he has been, and 50GB is enough to have me shaped to 25/6.5% (essentially classifying me as a heavy user), something is seriously wrong.

Not quite. While the overall extent of shaping is determined by network constraints, individual accounts are supposed to have shaping applied more or less aggressively based on their recent usage. At least, that's the way it was originally explained to us. Unless something has changed, what is supposed to happen is that if they have to, for example, shape everyone to 50%, an account with not much recent usage might be only shaped to 75%, while higher usage will be shaped to 25%, to average out at the desired level. Having said that, though, I think the system is completely broken, because if 9GB of usage and 1Gb in a week gets you any kind of shaping there is something seriously borked.

So what happened to the easing up the shaping? I stand corrected but there was an article on mybroadband pertaining the IPC price decrease and Afrihost said that they would decrease the price for the capped account which they did, in the same article they mentioned that for the uncapped accounts they would easy up on shaping... I need to find this article... I found the email where I shared this article....

Afrihost has launched their new “capped DSL double data” promotion, offering their capped ADSL subscribers double their monthly data allowance at the same price. This means that Afrihost effectively reduced their capped ADSL prices by 50%.
All of Afrihost’s capped data packages (excluding bundles) will be doubled and are available immediately for new signups.
All existing Afrihost capped data clients will automatically be given double their data allowance from the 1 April 2014.
Afrihost’s “capped DSL double data” promotion will run until 30 September, at which time the offer will be revised or extended.
Afrihost added that their uncapped DSL clients will also have extra capacity sent their way, which the ISP said “will mean that the best uncapped experience in the market will get even better”.
“A planned 21% upgrade on Afrihost’s network capacity, with capacity already added in the Northern region and more expected in the Southern and Eastern regions, will mean uncapped clients can expect less shaping on their non-real-time protocols,” Afrihost said.

The additional capacity has been implemented and we are seeing shaping ease.
I mentioned a little earlier in this thread, shaping can be expected during peak times when the network is busiest. This is how the Uncapped accounts are designed though.
With the implementation of the capacity the capacity will be easing up after hours as it has previously.
I saw you mention that, but did you see me mention the 18/6% shaping at 2:30AM?
