Latency is good, but about 25% drop in performance tonight:

Reported it via ClientZone as well. This is becoming more and more frequent. Afrihost running out of capacity?

I don't think we've suddenly lost capacity, so we'd never see a dramatic reduction like that - unless there was an external factor like iOS release or Windows Updates.

Have you run any further tests or troubleshooting?

Sheesh Afrihost are shaping real time services big time. They did so well yesterday, and now its back to being awful :(

We don't ever shape realtime services, even on the most severe shaping policies.

What leads you to believe that your realtime services are shaped?

I'd have to check your account to see if there have been no changes to your profile. You should have seen some unshaping or lighter shaping overnight and off-peak times. You can PM your username :(

So who you using now?

Tired of uncapped WebAfrica, bought capped AfriHost on Friday - tested on the weekend (speedtest) and uncapped (shaped) WA was marginally faster than capped (unshaped) AH.

Damn. Post the stats? I was hoping to move from WA Uncapped Home to Afrihost Capped.

In my experience, the AH Uncapped Home was terrible while the WA Uncapped Home is "OK" until you move to 3 stars, which happens without even trying. At 120GB you are moved to 1 star and you are basically on the Telkom Test account (with which you cannot access jack ****). So both are useless.

Might have to stick with Webafrica Capped it seems.

That is quite sad.
I've found the Web Africa account way superior for streaming (manage 1080p on my 10Mb/s account), however I'm still on 5 stars.
I've confirmed with their support that they will soon THROTTLE (not shape, I confirmed) me so that I won't even be able to stream from 8-5. WOW.

I love Afrihost, but really, you guys need to fix your connectivity to the Netflix and Hulu+ CDNS.

Throttling is definitely not something we want to look into. It's definitely an easy answer to some issues, but it's a pretty hard sell to our clients. And is just isn;t the kind of experience we want to provide.

Remember that we're only seeing some intermittent problems that seem to have cropped up as demand has started to peak. When we get our full capacity delivered, things should really be very different experience wise.

Yup, I definitely appreciate that you guys are some of a few who do not throttle. I'm really hoping that it gets fixed soon, as it seems to have gotten worse over time.

I always appreciate your prompt and honest responses, something which is hard to find.

When are you guys getting the capacity? It's been months now, if telkom does not give, start suing for breaching contract and see them work.

All I'm saying is their critical account is on the same MTN network and that thing flies, NOTHING buffers. Paid capped, uncapped, unshaped accounts buffers. Makes one think.

To me, there is no difference between throttling and shaping, especially when shaping is so bad that you are unable to use your service after hours (between 6pm and midnight). There is a logical difference, but not in the results.

We've received our provision capacity already and seeing good results, are you still experiencing issues?

Are you seeing any buffering or slow speeds on realtime services?
