Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Hey guys the westerncape is having authentication issues again I can't get online with afrihost just like last night can this be investigated Afriman

The issues were from around 9-9:30 to 10:30pm last night. Affected the national network on both Mobile and DSL. But remember this was only for new sessions being created, so clients already connected would probably not have noticed anything.

I think we are closer to a solution and I'm pretty confident this problem should be behind us. Several solutions have been put in place which should prevent further disruption, but we're monitoring the network 24 hours a day to check for problems. Our technical director and senior MTN technical management are also overseeing this to ensure our team have all the necessary resources.

Mine has been off since 9pm don't know what's happening but all data output disappeared and now I have a red authentication lite that after we reboots won't work either it's the same as yesterday and very frustrating

Seems consistent with when the reports came in. Should have come back online at 10:30 or thereabouts.

I'm hoping the solutions we put in place now will prevent any further disruptions :(

I am busy switching accounts now so If i don't connect gg I can go to bed.

Afrihost it is time to sort out this before it becomes a mess

Sorry about having to switch accounts. Hopefully we're past this issue now. I know 3 days in a row is totally uncool :(

So i am sitting here with 20mb vdsl with about 30gb of downloads waiting since monday. Still not even halfway. WTF is going on AH ?

That's pretty strange. Are you downloading on torrents or via HTTP? Also, what shaping policy are you on?

12% shaping means 12% of line speed.

10mb line = 1000kb/s +- ( - 12% = 880kb/s +- left on line )

or 120 kb/s to use.

so the 12% still does not make sense and the line has been shaped 24/7 for the past 7 day's :-/

No shaping applied. Torrents(between 6pm and 6am) and atm busy with a 1gb http file hovering around 300KB/s and dipping to 150-170KB/s

same here seems like this entire week i've only managed to get max 490kb/s on my 10mb line, the client zone says 12% shaping is applied but still 12% can't be half a 10mb line.

something fishy is going on...

speed test shows full 10 mb. but http, nntp ,p2p everything is slow. slower than usually when being shaped and the time is insane long... been shaped from monday at 12.5 % it never went away.

I'm not sure if you're saying that your total line throughput is 490kbps or if that is just the download you're looking at. 12 % shaping would be around 1mbps or less.

It's very difficult to benchmark performance on torrents. Could be a problem with the seeder(s). Do you see overall throughput issues on something like BitMeter if you saturate your line?

I think we're confused by Bits and Bytes here. 10Mbps would 10240kbps (some lines also only sync at around 10016kbps)

thats the thing its supost to be at 1000kb/s but what ever i try to download on NNTP gets nothing more than 490kb/s and our usage for this month is a ll time low compared to other months and my shaping is still going strong for some reason.

our usage for the month is 290 for a 10mb line we normally do around 800 so I have no idea why we being shaped.

Remember that's a guideline. Especially with torrents, it's hard to say you will always get the maximum. Seeders may be limiting their upload, may not have the full file or just have crappy lines :(

yes I get a very good sync on my line, my download some times hit 1.2mb/s and no I don't do torrents only use nntp.

news.internet.co.za if I remember correct the afrihost nntp server. normally its very fast but the last week my shaping has never been removed its stays 24/7 on 12.5 %

even stuff like amd's new graphics driver only downloaded at 120 kb/s

was referring to download speed not the line sync speed on router.

wat is rather weird when I use mybb speed test I get full 10mb speed to jhb and cpt.

when i put my downloads on and it runs at 490kb/s mybb shows a 4mb line so its rather weird .

perhaps shaping will be lifted in the new month, but as far as I know there is no individual shaping right ? its the entire network expert for business and capped accounts ?

Is there some kind of test that i can run for you or something ?

I just wanted to clarify becuase kBps and kbps mean the results are very different. A lot of NNTP and Torrent clients use kBps, so it causes confusion.

o yea my bad

kBps then noramlly 1200kBps and for the past week nothing more than 490kBps even if my usage is as low as 290 on a 10mb uncapped account

LOL, okay 1200kBps is around 12mbps. I think we're confusing each other :(

sigh we going no where, like this then

plush1.png

and yes sometimes it goes to 1.2MB/s aka 1200KB/s

nways, can you please perhaps assist with with shaping that has been lasting for the past week ? on 12.5% and my downloads only using 490KB/s ?
