Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

If you're looking to download something during peak times you can run a turbocharge.

Why should I when I never needed to in the past? I only ever needed turbocharge when there were severe IPC constraints.

Again... something's changed. And in the absence of details, users are going to guess. And the guesses about MTN wanting to decrease overheads are going to be commonplace.

Again, I can't provide you with specifics. We're testing the shaping to see how it goes. Nothing more, nothing less.
If it's something that we look at implementing permanently we'll notify everyone accordingly.

I think Uncapped Home needs to be brought out in different models, and priced accordingly. Because just shaping everyone is not going to solve anything, except your profit margin and make us more frustrated.

I think you will be surprised by how many forumites have studied years of networking, work in data centres or with ISPs. We would LOVE a technical AUP

Afriguy Afriman, who ever is handling queries, I have resend my PM to both of you..... I am still within my 60 days of signing up and depending on the trend of this thread will take you up on your 60 day double money back gaurentee...

I really hope I can make this clear, I'm running out of versions to explain.

  • We're testing some shaping changes
  • Shaping lasts until 22:00
  • Shaping starts at 07:30
  • This testing is being done to mark any realtime improvements during peak hours
  • We're still collecting data on this test
  • Should we make any changes permanent we'll amend our AUP accordingly

I truly do believe that our current product offering covers everyones needs.

Please add a little more detail to your PM so I can check things out for you :)

It used to cover my needs.
It no longer does. Not because my needs have changed, but because of your testing - which still has no stated objective.

You guys asked for my username to check out my account. I have submited screenprints on this thread with info....please be more specific with what info you need....and before you state go check with telkom, there is nothing wrong with my telkom line.

I think we need to drop this now, I've answered every question. We're going around in circles now. Please review the thread for answers.

Our shaping is described in the AUP to be readable, I honestly don't think anyone is going to take the time and a few years of studying networking, IPC etc etc to understand it.

Buzzwords and avoiding the question. Please send me a link as what I found about AUP had no clarity on the matter whatsoever other than Best Effort as "a result of Telkom"

When your service goes from IS through a MTN transition people start caring. If there were no issues people wouldn't bother. SA has some unique challenges (mostly regulatory and cost) and knowing your network is very advantageous. Transparent engagement with your customers is another thing however. Look at how Bitco have done straight 1 hour window bursting and how that is received due to the high level of transparency?

I'll follow up on the threads history, thanks :)

No problem. Dropping it like I dropped my subscription. For the record, you have not answered my questions satisfactorily at all. I am very disappointed, this is not what I had come to expect from Afrihost.

Hi all, thinking about ditching 3G and getting adsl for home use. Any comments on Afrihost vs Internet Solutions. Looking at capped 4mb line for both. Price difference between the two seems quite substantial, not sure if thats an indication of quality vs cost?

If you have further questions you're more than welcome to PM me.
The questions you've posted in this thread have been answered. I think you're looking for answers that aren't there.

That's a bit presumptuous considering the amount of people whom are unhappy with the service.
It's a very naive and dangerous thing to turn a blind eye to unhappy consumers, which is exactly what you are doing right now by ignoring the impact of your "testing".

I am one of the casualties and I do not doubt that there will be lot more to come in a short space of time.

You're wrong, just like you were wrong about "covering everyone's needs". Sorry, I'm finding your responses insufferably arrogant.

Possibly. I'm probably quite biased too :p
We track all of our clients feedback though and mark improvements wherever and whenever we can :)
