Well - let's see if this "miraculous" easing off on the shaping is going to last past midnite and the rest of the week

If so, I'll be damned ;-)

I don't think anything has been promised or actioned around this though, we're still wading through heaps of data to make the best possible decision :)

Remember last year October/November - Your accounts were amazing around that time. January everything died. Tell Brendan to restore the Mikrotik configurations back to how it was in November.

I seem to recall that home uncapped (and some other accounts) were subsidised by the marketing budget.
The accounts were amazing, resulting in what I'd guess is unprecendented uptake.
Definitely unprecedented by the marketing budget, which I'm guessing is pretty much flat as a pancake now. So, performance levels have to decline to an unsubsidised level now, which is what we have.

That actually makes perfect sense.

I cancelled my Home Uncapped a few days ago. Decided to start using our 1TB Vox Fat Pipe Samsung promo - what a difference!
First unbundled, then cancelled the data portion. Then found out that it only dies at the end of the month - thought it was immediate??? Anyone have similar experience, as in no prorated billing / discount for remaining days?

Nope. You pay for a month, you get a month. Can't undo.

We had probably just upgraded our IPC around then, depending on which region you were in, I don't recall specifically.

I believe we're still delivering an amazing experience to the majority of our Uncapped users, and for some that want more unshaped time or want to be able to torrent whenever, you still have free Turbocharge minutes or you can explore a capped or Business option.

Basically all our offerings are subsidised in one way or another. DSL is definitely still being heavily subsidised, which how we were able to secure more IPC.

I am one of the few here that mostly streams and game a bit. I cancelled due to poor performance on Netflix, YouTube buffers and such. So real-time not where it is suppose to be or where we like it to be. On X ISP I get 720p now via YouTube on 4Mbps for instance.

I've also divorced DSTV for Netflix and Hulu as well - this is also my primary source of entertainment.
Streaming on AH has NEVER been up to scratch.
On a capped account Netflix still only manages a maximum of 720p, and Hulu still occasionally buffers and this is on a 10Mb line.
With Web Africa, this is not the case - Netflix streams at 1080p with no issues.

We're definitely going to keep testing and working towards the best streaming experience. Netflix seems to be inconsistent when streaming off their US service, depending on the routing used. But when I test any streaming via EU, it's pretty great. We'll keep looking into this.

Hi AfriMan,

Thanks for the feedback, however I've also tested using the Netflix UK service, and it was no better than the US one.
Hulu has never been great.

We tested it with our technical team and performance was pretty good on HD (which was pretty tricky to get going) using a shaped account. We'll keep testing to see where improvements can be made.

Afriman, Guy, whatever
I don't know what the heck is going on there but I have now been shaped to a catatonic state for over a full week now, NON-STOP.

Why even have a shaping policy if you are shaping all the damn time?
As I've said to one of the consultants that replied to my enquiry, Afrihost has now entered the Crap level.
What's shocking is the lack of interest from the support staff, all I get is "upgrade to this and that, blah blah"

I will never recommend AH to anyone.
