Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Hi Afriman;Afriguy

I have a 2mb business bundle account has been heavily shaped since this morning; and I would just like to know why? Web traffic seems to run fine but all our P2P and online gaming traffic has been shaped into the ground. Client-zone states that no shaping is being applied but this doesn't seem to be the case at all.

Shaping can be expected on the accounts during peak hours :(
Drop me a PM with your DSL username, I'll have a look at the shaping to see if there's anything wrong.

Hi Afriguy I've send my Username for you to check.

Are you saying business accounts are being shaped now? Because that wasn't what is advertised. And like I said before According to Clientzone no shaping has been applied?

Thanks, I've just replied :)
Business accounts aren't shaped, got confused as this isn't the Business Uncapped thread.

Just wondering what the average usage in GB is on this package per month is, anyone mind telling me?

I tend to do around 200-250GB on 4mbps uncapped. Usually, the throttling is lifted in the wee hours of the morning, but that did not happen this morning...

It definitely should have, could you PM me your DSL username so I can check the history of the shaping please?

Please just get your ****ing **** together.

Ok to elaborate: all your IPCs are lacking in bandwidth capacity. Buy more

We are definitely aware of performance issues and are doing what we can to improve performance now while we consider long term options with MTN. As soon as we have any confirmed plans, we'll update the forums.

Your pings seem a little inconsistent but I don't see a big enough variance to cause concern. Destination latency also seems OK, maybe not as good as we've seen usually though.

Shapings been more restrictive than before...

Shaping has definitely been tightened up to shape services that were falling through the cracks previously. I don't think we're shaping any services that shouldn't be shaped, it mostly services that were being misclassified and not shaped.

If you're seeing a service shaped that you believe shouldn't be, then please let me know.

Otherwise, policies (in terms of percentages) have not changed at all.

Thanks for the info. I also used around there but I bought capped to be in control of what I download and when. But unfortunately Afrihost is Shaping that as well so i canceled. But for me their attitude is just not what I want to deal with. I will rather put my money on CW.

In Short........Pay the same for less.

No, not really, we're sticking to the same AUP, we're not changing the rules, we're just doing what we should have been doing more effectively and efficiently. We're still not shaping any services which we previously said we wouldn't.

Yes I know, did not say your are anything that is not in your AUP In essence doing exactly what mweb started last year.

I don't want to comment on other ISP's, I don't know their AUP. But it's not like we had a provision that we didn't enforce previously. We've always said we're shaping certain types of traffic, but there have been loopholes for people to disguise their traffic to get around shaping and we're closing those to make sure we shape effectively, to the overall benefit of all users.

What they are saying is that should you have been able to circumvent the shaping previously, then you might not be now as they are closing the loop holes. No need to get upset as we are all in the same boat.

At the end of the day, the way forward is not to try to backup the internet and switch to real time services like streaming.

I'll just come in here and say the AUP is deliberately vague.

Dont get me wrong I do average of 250GB per month(mostly streaming) and had two capped acc's with them to do it with. which got shaped and I cancelled. Since the service degraded to a point where it became laughable.

Any AUP document is going to try to be as broad as possible. Aside from catering for future issues, it's also very expensive to have them ratified by attorneys, etc, so you can't really update terms and AUP too frequently. It also allows us more discretion where we can be flexible in our client's favour as much as possible.
