Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Sounds very odd.
Drop me a PM with some test results and a ticket ID and I can check things out from there :)

Will PM ID now now.

As for test results. It's like this packet loss is a phantom. I can't really give any results. I used to be able to watch a youtube clip AND play War Thunder at the same time with it only increasing my ping by 100ms. So when it does work fine, however now it will increase my ping and cause packet loss. I'm starting to think that maybe Telkom was tinkering with the local box.

As of this post time, there is still an issue.

EDIT: Changing to Web Africa account has fixed the issue for now. The other days this did not work.

Can't stream much for the last few days........I thought streaming is not shaped???

Streaming definitely is not, I am experiencing significant buffering on Youtube on our office connection at the moment. Are you seeing any increased latency or drops in speeds?

Guess "the network" is not fixed...

Should I pay for a 10meg account to get my full 4meg line speed?

It seems like we did get a few reports of spotty performance, my own very superficial tests were not too great. Throughput was good (from torrents, etc) but YouTube was not what I would expect.

We're looking into this on our side :(

AfriMan Can you please look at my account speed test shows i get my 2mbps however my torrents are running between 10 and 50 Kbps

You are in the uncapped thread. By default your account will be shaped to only allow between 6.5% and 12.5% of line speed during the day on download protocols.

Your account is performing as it should in accordance with Afrihost's system.

You can review this yourself by looking in your clientzone under your account - you will see the shaping percentage.

Orihalcon is indeed correct, your Uncapped account is currently being shaped, our system will only shape your P2P downloads, leaving your real-time services untouched.

You will be able to enable Turbocharge from your Clientzone, which will completely un-shape your account for a set period of time.

Silly AfriGenie, how dare you assume someone complaining of slow speeds in the Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback thread has an Uncapped Account... shame on you!

Consider me suitably chastised.

Anyone else having difficulty connecting to online games? Since the network issues on Afrihost last week and even after it was resolved I still cant connect to (play) any of the online games I've tried (Archeage, Smite, Rift etc) I get disconnected after a few seconds or simply cannot connect once in game.

I am assuming this is an Afrihost thing (because it only happens when they have network issues) but I know it is probably somewhere else that is causing the issue. At least everything else seems to work besides streaming which has buffer issues sometimes and p2p is very slow.. like 2-4kbps.

I've re-synced my line which has helped for the streaming and there is no shaping protocol active the last time I checked client zone but I'm still not happy that I cant play online, especially the paid subscription games.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can improve the situation?

Apologies if this is in the incorrect thread.

I'm in the same boat, Treious. I've had to resort to setting up a VPN with my mate on his fiber connection... I STILL have an open ticket with AfriHost (which I logged on the 10th September). Gaming performance has actually gotten worse since then...

There are still some lingering issues on some games, using Turbocharge seems to at least allow the user to connect to the game servers.

We have a dedicated Team working on gaming performance right at this moment, you guys should start to see improvement very soon.

Oh my HELL!

Packet loss is RIDICULOUS!

Youtube also buffering on everything. PLEASE fix this! your shaping system is messing up...again. Mumble unusable, BF4 rubber banding and disconnecting.

And no - all trace routes are pretty perfect. Also MTR shows nothing. This crazy. With any P2P game or service it seems the level of use should be expected to be useless on uncapped. :-/ Pretty damn sad.
