That's a new one. I'm going to be a little more proactive. I'll set up a log and monitor the goings-on of the modem and line, see if there is any pattern occurring that I could be missing.

Thanks again for the help, it was a shot in the dark coz I'm really frazzled here.

It definitely looks like a line issue, I'm guessing as well cos I'm basing my thoughts on the single trace I saw.

Hi Afriman

I have a slight problem.

About mid October i decided to upgrade to a 20Mbps line when it upgraded it was syncing at 15Mbps I pmed TelkomZA and they fixed it to sync at a full 20Mbps now my mom gets her statement and they have added R300 just to do that? i find that extremely odd. Telkom did not mention a fee to do this they just did it. Please can you follow up Ref: DEX-365-65399 i find it unfair to pay both Afrihost for the line and now R300 to Telkom.

Sorry about the delays here, I'll follow up on the ticket for you now and PM some feedback.

Hi Afriman.

I'm seeing some very high latency (between 250ms and 650ms local) on my line and the speeds are pretty awful as well. It started on Tuesday and has persisted through till today. I've logged a support ticket (WLY-926-12361) but hoping you can possibly expedite things :D

Looks like the latency is being introduced at the exchange, possibly due to congestion/ issues there :(
Are these results permanent or do they fluctuate?

Shaping is weird. During the day "No shaping applied" and suddenly after 10 to 12 to night its at 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P. Find it a bit odd.

Quick background, everything is fine with our uncapped, games are fine twitch is fine youtube and google services are fine untill around 8pm last night.

Here is a screen grab of my youtube last night where i cant even stream a 144p video and it buffers every 5 secs. ( I have a very stable 10mb line )

I dailed my trusty 1gb free account and boom 7000kbps download on youtube @1080p

Gmail, google, youtube and google drive was slow as f#$&/^ and what does you support ask me... send speedtest and if there is other stuff running on my line.. wtf its your shaping protocols that are still not ****ing sorted out. Team speak is still giving issues with packetloss on non standard ports, when will this be resolved..

It's probably due to higher demand in the evenings, a lot of businesses have closed and things are winding down for the end of the year. Remember shaping is done dynamically, so the quieter it is the less shaping there will be.

AfriGuy

I've been keeping a close eye on the Afrihost threads and it seems that you guys have solved your connectivity issues?

I'd like to get back to Afrihost but also don't want to risk spending money on something that may not work.

Are you able to organise a 50% referal discount so I can try a Capped Account from 1st Jan?

Hi :)

Our network has come a long way this year!
If you haven't claimed already, you can just sign up and if you aren't happy - claim for your money back. Either way, here's 50% [because festive season] :p

Thanks

I'm not a big fan of money back claims ... I appreciate the 50% discount. Just not sure how to activate it? Do I just click the link on 1st Jan and sign up for a Capped Product or do I go to the Clientzone (I have a 1GB account from the past) and do something there?

You'll need to sign up for a new package.

Hey AfriGuy, how long does a payment via CC usually take to show up on my account? Logged in now after paying yesterday and it's still yelling at me in angry red that I need to settle the account.

It usually pretty quick.
Drop me a PM with your info and I'll see if the account is all up to date.

Hey guys

With the festive season fast approaching (in fact it's mostly here) it's time for the Social Media team and the MyBB crew from Afrihost to take a bit of a breather.
This will be our last day on the forums and Social, we'll be back on the 29th December 2014.

Our Support team are still available, so if anything does come up that you need answered you can give our team a shout:

It's been a fantastic year, I've personally enjoyed all of it - both the ups and downs :)
Have a magical festive season and a safe New Year!

AfriMan and I will be gone a little longer, AfriGenie will be back on the 29th though.

I'll kick off my leave at 8pm this evening.

Afrihost Uncapped Low end line speed

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/544879-Afrihost-Uncapped-ADSL-Feedback-(Pt2) continues here:

Mod_note: These threads are clearly designed/intended for customers to provide feedback to their respective ISPs - not for disgruntled former customers to vent, not for other ISPs to promote their services, etc - and, one hopes, for the relevant ISP to respond.
I post this in the hope to gain understanding, as a low end, cheapskate, golden oldie, old fogey, Afrihost subscriber, with financial constraints, read, broke, I try to be content with what I can afford. Normally Afrihost performs well. But a while back Telkom upgraded the Adsl line at the bottom end to higher speed at no cost. I could not understand why I did not qualify for this free upgrade. Afrihost would not pass this on. I am a pensioner looking after 3 jobless, well qualified, kids. In no MaZumaland. Or Zumastan, take your pick. My kids are trying to utilize internet opportunites to earn some income with their, intelectual capital. The result is two have now opted out and are leaving the country for better opportunites. Thankyou Gian. For nothing. Will we ever have better cost effect internet in the Beloved Country, like India and others? I only see more lonely Christmasses for oldies looming ahead. Will the last kid leaving the country switch of the lights, if there is no loadshedding and it is already off! Bwana Bolenke
