Sigh. Today is the first day in a while that we've had shaping. Youtube has run flawlessly for a month. Now the sh*t starts again..

The network has definitely become busier, this was par for the course as businesses start up again.
Saying that though, the network is running really well. Shaping will never affect realtime services like streaming though - do you have any results that I can look into for you?

What do you need? I'll PM. 480p instantly maxes line and stays like that. 720p60 will max line for bit and then drop.

i have tested with an telkom account then i get full speed i have spoken to telkom engineers direct and the exchange are not congested everything ran fine with no problems the whole of December and the first week of jan, when the shaping started again the problems started...

Where are you based?

Or problems started when everyone went back to work and started using the Internet during the day?

After some cool performance, it's back to crud. International is awful atm.

i am in the eastern cape, in the daytime the internet are not bad at all its when the sun are switched off when most of the problems start

I've got the same problem, just not quite as bad. I'm on 4mbps business. Everything not on the MTN network has exquisite ping. Afrihost is a bit behind on latency. Afrihost has been trying to provide support on this for me, but I really don't think that they're going to be able to reduce my ping too much, just because of the physical limitations of their network.

Shaping cannot affect 2nd hop latency, and the theory is that it in fact keeps latency stable during high demand.

2nd hop latency means you are experiencing high pings before you leave Telkom's network, usually at the exchange.

The guest accounts can sometimes misreport throughput and latency, because they route differently to other ISP accounts (I believe they bypass IPC altogether and leave the BRAS on a different route to normal ISP accounts, including Telkom ISP accounts). That's my theory, based on the contrast we see sometimes in results :(

Which game is this? Generally I've been testing decent international speeds. Gaming on destiny and COD this weekend was perfect :(

We will see an increase in demand as more business start getting back to normal but we'll also done very little shaping of late. We'll shape accordingly to ensure that everyone's experience is consistent and real time priority services perform as normal.
