Now my line again is syncing at only 2.5mbit ... so much for back to normal.

I signed up in September and tested it out for over a month, and I was happy with the speeds.
Now I have given away my Red Africa special because I thought this would be great ... now I'm screwed for downloads if they don't sort this out, because all the rest are too expensive for me :( ... I really hope Afrihost sorts out this issue ... I knew I shouldn't have given away my Red Africa special ... sigh :(

Note, I changed the modem to the uncapped account after testing the 1GB, so not like I didn't renew the connection.

Your line is syncing at 10Mbps, not 2.5Mbps lol. You're getting 2.5Mbps down a 10Mbps pipe.

Actually, my line is syncing about how slow it is right now, what is your line syncing about?

Edit: And regardless of the terminology in my original post, you still get what I mean :p

Of course we know what you mean, I was being pedantic, this is a tech forum, being pedantic comes with the territory. We can't help ourselves :D

Lol @ syncing about how slow it is, love it :D

Sympathies on the line. Mweb may be slower at times, but it's generally consistent mostly for me. I'm dying to go to another ISP at a better price.

So Afrihost support says they managed to resolve the latency issues last night (which we can see is sorted out), and they said since the changes, 1 and 2MB lines are now without issues, but they are aware of problems on 4 and 10MB Uncapped lines and are sorting that out and should hopefully fix it in the middle of the night tonight. He mentioned, if it isn't sorted out that they will put something on the website to keep everyone updated (But let's see if that happens).
My guess is they've screwed up the throttling and shaping rules for uncapped accounts, because I was previously told that when I get throttled, I will be operating at 2Mbps, and it seems that's where I am now ... so the system is probably throttling everyone by mistake.

Maybe they set it to throttle at 300KB instead if 300GB :p

Also, note that there was an additional space, situated before the "We can't help ourselves!", that I have since removed in both quotes above.

Your grammar is fixed.

Grammar Nazi is over and out! ;) :D

Yup, I'm having the same issue as everyone else it seems.

Line Sync = 8Mbps
Afrihost Account: 4Mbps Uncapped
Actual Speed: +- 1Mbps

For me, the biggest disappointment here is the realisation that we've been "duped" all this time... With the exception of my Diablo 3 latencies, I have been 100% happy (impressed even) with Afrihost's performance. I get max speed pretty much all the time, and I have had no complaints. Based on my experience over the last couple of months, I have been singing Afrihost's praises to anyone that would listen. I've converted two of my friends from MWEB.

Now I discover its all been a lie and that those "good times" are a thing of the past? I can accept that it is UTTERLY broken right now, but for me, the biggest question-mark is what is it going to be like when it is FIXED... I think we need to all prepare ourselves for the fact that it is *not* going to be anywhere near as good as it was when we were all lured here.

I hope I'm wrong.

Finally back to full speed but I'm no impressed with the fluctuation of line speed today. Ranging from 80kb's to a max of 250kb/s on everything, not just newsgroups
