Humor you? Seriously....

This is an Afrihost ADSL feedback forum and my posts are related to ADSL feedback!

If you want to ban me or mark my post as spam go ahead but my intention was not to spam the thread if thats what you think I'm doing

I've been a member to my broadband forums since November 2011 and I only have 127 posts in total. Do I look like a spammer?

Maybe just a little pissed off with the Afrihost service we are getting at the moment but definitely no spammer.

Just over an hour until "2am" when the support guy said everything will be hunky dory again ... I wait with "baited" breath :erm:

Something weird is going on with this MTN network! I tried to upgrade my laptop to windows 8 but the download assistant kept saying windows 8 is not available in your country/region.

I logged in on my FNB connect account and it worked perfectly.

Afriman, why would windows download assistant think I'm outside SA when on the MTN network? IP address?

There hasn't been an update since 2, but it seems they stuck to their word:

I ran it a few times locally to get an average:

On NZB's, my speed is a bit erratic, going up to 950kb/s, then dropping to 150kb/s for a second or so, then back up to 950kb/s for a few seconds. Even with this though, it's averaging over 700kb/s but not good for the gaming guys.

See attached graph from my router

@eitai2001

I'm with Astraweb (20 connections) / Afrihost 10mb uncapped.

Just did an NZB test, my speed seems to be sitting around the 1mB mark, occasionally dipping down to 700k. What newgroups provider are you using, and how many connections? I remember when I first signed up my speeds went up and down and up and down until I realized I could hit their three servers with 6+6+8 connections.

Also, it might help your analysis if you could tell your network monitoring app to 'ignore local LAN traffic' :)

Edit: 15 minutes later and my NZB download average has dropped to about 650k, spiking up to about 900 and dipping to 500. Possibly new shaping policies (but on a Saturday morning?)

2nd Edit: Ok its official, I'm throttled to 4mb. Youtube, NZB, Speedtest, everything spikes up and then settles around 450kbps. Luckily for Afrihost I'm an optimistic / patient sorta guy and am going to assume that they're tweaking. Latency is fine.

3rd Edit: Did I say 4mb? Make that 2mb. Latency still fine though.

Sigh, posting from phone. Everything was fine until about 10 min ago when my connection just went dead... Phone line still working but no Internet. Restarted the router but still nothing. Anyone else?

Yeah Speedtest better this morning, but NZB's still cr@p. Only did about 2.5GB so can't be throttled yet, or at least hope not.
NZB's running at 105kb/s on a 4MB line.. What cr@p is this.. Afrihost catch a wake up, your service is getting really useless and u are forcing many to look for new ISP.

I have made news.afrihost.co.za my main provider and Astraweb my fallback because there are some groups not available on Afrihost news.

Tired of this inconsistent network.
Seeing as AfriHost still feels it is okay to charge full price, but majority of the time you're not getting what you're paying for.

IS days will be sorely missed. 100KBps and 200KBps on a 4Mbps line is just not okay. Even HTTP download of League of Legends Game Client is battling along at 200KBps. Let's not even get started with Newsbins and YouTube. I remember being told that YouTube isn't shaped when I had some questions before joining a few months ago. Seems that idea has been abandoned now, as you're lucky to get a 360p video to stream without a minute's buffering when nothing else is happening on the pc. I'll rather pay the extra R200 and go back to MWEB.

LOL took my car for a wash came back 2h40m later and 1.19GB still busy downloading on a 4MB line :D
Top stuff Afrihost, this is what I paid for.

Edit: O yeah not just NZB's suck.. All downloads sucks even HTTP like Nvidia drivers.

Hi ***,

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience please advise if you are still experiencing issues with your connectivity. The latency has sorted out and you should be connecting normally. If you are still experiencing issues with your connectivity please advise.

This is very disappointing, I must say.

Totally agree.
I really thought Afrihost would have sorted out the issue at least by this weekend - Latency is ok, but the speed is half of what it should be :(
It is in fact the same if not worse than when we were on Incontinent Salutations :(
