Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

My SSL NNTP won't connect at all. Youtube is streaming fine.

Afriman, I am sure we all hear you and understand. What AF needs to understand is that your users didn't ask for this. You guys said we are moving to MTN and we all screamed, nooooooooooooo, leave everything as is because it will be a disaster. So now we have this disaster and we are just upset.

I want my money back for this month. You are not giving me what I'm paying for.
What use is it getting 4Mbps only 12 hours of the day?
Speedtest shoots up to 1Mbps instantly, then stays there constantly. Obvious throttling.
Maybe it is cause I cancelled. Probably throttling all accounts that have cancelled.
All I can say is, awful useless support and communication (Except for Afriman).
You'd have to pay me to keep me as a client. What an absolute waste of my hard earned money. That's all I can say.
Also, the way that AfriHost delivers support on Telkom Line issues, when you migrate your line to them, so they can give better support. Had to phone Telkom to get things done on my own. Worst support from an ISP ever. Sent emails when my line was faulty that I'm STILL waiting for a reply on. Weeks later.

Honestly, I think the ISP of the year award should be given back. You guys should be ashamed. Charging clients full price, on an untested unstable network. Basically like charging people to play a Beta game filled with 1000s of bugs and glitches.

I don't think it's fair to attack Gian's personal integrity. It was his personal vision that created the ideal against which you are measuring Afrihost's performance. I'm personally not cool with that :(

...

Use / Don't Use - Just my opinion :)

Do you even read what you post? Perhaps you should propose a new lorem ipsum. Should I not try to hold Afrihost to its vision, has its vision patently become defunct?

Your rhetoric is falling into line with your current level of internet service.

I did not question the man's integrity, I stated that I would expect of him and/or his team to take responsibility for yet another prolonged outage. Turning that around against me? tsk tsk tsk. Trolling on company time, comes with afrihost territory these days.

And we have to pay full price for their "learning curb"

Afriman, I would expect an apology to all affected users from the figurehead or responsible management, nothing more and nothing less. If that were not the case it would indeed call into question the remaining integrity of your organization. Stop it with the spin already. It sounds like white noise political speech. You screwed up as an organization, deal with it with some measure of honour.

Tbh, even though I have seen two WISP setups in detail (both mikrotik router setups with only a couple of hundred users) and shape internet going to my internal network I shouldn't care as a consumer. The short of it is that service has been terrible again.

I am dead sure competing network teams are having a solid laugh at the expense of "SA's top rated ISP for two years running".

I'm happy to concede that Afrihost as a company owes affected clients an apology, and we are sincerely sorry that it is taking us this long to resolve it to the point where everyone has the same good experience that other clients are reporting.

I'll be honest, questioning integrity (especially of individuals) is a slippery slope, and I'd rather it be avoided. I think I am very honest and straightforward with the information I provide in this and other forums, I think referring to my comments as "noise" is rather ungenerous. But hey, that's just my opinion, and you know what they say about those.

:)

But you said ... oh nevermind, I'll just keep the "noise" to myself. Thanks for the enlightenment :)

We are still getting positive feedback, so we need to put things in perspective. I dunno if you guys saw this review by NAG magazine http://www.nag.co.za/2012/11/05/afrihost-adsl-30gb-1mbs-capped-account-review/

Clearly there are also many clients getting good service. I know when you're affected it feels like something is totally buggered, but that's why we need to keep working on this to ensure that the experience gets spreat out further. In my honest experience, the amount of people having issues is slowly diminishing, capped accounts are now pretty much flying for most, and this is the last hurdle.

I'm happy to engage with anyone who is really feeling hard done, and need alternatives, let's talk, send me a PM.

And before anyone asks, no we did not pay NAG for the review, no they did not get anything out of it, no we did not provide any information or stats for them to use.

I don't recall him saying "oh nevermind, I'll just keep the "noise" to myself. Thanks for the enlightenment :)" ;)

Jokes aside ... I'm sending you a PM quick.

Who is we?
I can speak for myself thanks.
When I had heard Afrihost was going to a dedicated network I was overjoyed!
IS was a constant battle on uncapped....inconsistent speeds horrible latency and it was getting worse!
Capped was a dream, but we were being throttled to hell and gone, then capped also started to suffer.
Personally I am as upset about the speeds, but at least they are working on it.
The only reason everyone screamed noooooo, was that MTN is infamous for their cellular side... I am making a generalisation here.

We would definitely not penalise you for cancelling by throttling you. I am not sure how the shaping policies are being implemented, I know the guys are working through the night implementing and monitoring. As they track usage they should be slowly opening up the available "pipe" for uncapped users, so that they can dynamically set the network to be adaptive to usage trends.

PM me, I'm happy to see what I can do to help.

i too am very upset and dissapointed and have now had to spend an addtional R999 on a different isp 10mb uncapped account " which actually works" i dont believe my usage of under 200gb per month on 10mb is unreasonable and was very happy with afrihost whilst on IS

this MTN move and now throttling 10mb users to 1mb and less is absolute crap and unacceptable. how long can it take to sort out some QOS and shaping rules..

are we going to ever see a improved service what are the new throttling levels etc, i clearly remember posts from afriman assuring power users on 10mb that 200+gb wouldnt be an issue

well guess what now its all gone Grrrr

i have already put my cancellation in although Afrihost was quick to take my money for Nov its now 6 days and we still have no usuable service

Yeah my point exactly. Also had to spend additional money to get another account from another ISP which actually works, extra money you did not budget for. I see some of my family only getting Soap-on-Roap for Christmas with a card saying with love and thanks form Afrihost.

So far so good tonight, will see later when I fire up D3

You must run speedtests more than once ... this is why:

2290080806.png
- 3.6Mbit / 121ms

2290084505.png
- 1.2Mbit / 20ms

2290087083.png
- 1Mbit / 18ms

2290089732.png
- 0.59Mbit / 19ms

2290091542.png
- 7.72Mbit (Hurray, it's the fastest I've been awake to see this week) / 35ms

Note the times of the speedtests ...
