Tried gaming last night ... 400+ms ping for me.
This is on my uncapped account as well as my prepaid account that has free GB on it.
Busy atm getting the procedure to log a complaint with the Consumer Commision
You must have a lot of time on their hands for this to big that big a deal for you. Switching network seems far easier.
Hi everyone,
I have a 10meg business account with afrihost, and am getting 1-2meg download on speedtest to international destinations. Is this the same for everyone? My upload is working very fast, somehow slightly over 1meg so voip and everything is working great. Latency seems great also, its just the download throughput. I was wondering if this was a shaping thing, because I thought the business accounts were unshaped?
Kind regards
Pete

Hi everyone,
I have a 10meg business account with afrihost, and am getting 1-2meg download on speedtest to international destinations. Is this the same for everyone?
Right, so I've been having seemingly the same (or at least similar) issues as others on this forum. 2 Mbps uncapped, only use it after hours, getting appalling speeds: less than 0.8-ish Mbps, tops.
I've been trying to troubleshoot this issue with Afrihost's support since Sunday. Their replies are a tad slow, but they do come, and I imagine that their support team is under a huge amount of pressure at the mo, so I'll cut them some slack.
They first told me they were seeing port errors on my line, and that I should phone Telkom and get them to reset my ADSL ports. Did that, but no change. Afrihost's next suggestion was for me to try do a speed test at http://saix.net, both with a Telkom guest account (username: guest@telkomsa; password: guest), and with my Afrihost account.
Results last night, around 7 pm:
So, both the Afrihost and Telkom accounts were awful. Then I repeated the speedtest this morning, around 8 o'clock:
And presto, speeds on both Telkom and Afrihost are at what I would consider decent for my 2 Mbps line.
The implication here is that Telkom is cocking something up, if both Afrihost and Telkom accounts are acting the same. However, that doesn't line up with some other users' experiences, where Afrihost accounts are awful, but other ISPs' accounts are giving good speeds.
Either my problem is coincidentally symptomatically the same as everyone else's, but has a different cause, or... well, I have no idea.
Does this make sense to anyone, with perhaps more networking knowledge than me? Is it useful information in any way?
Well i have cancelled, i came across after hearing good reviews about afrihost, but i take my gaming seriously and to play Dota 2 with 350ms and to top it off its not even stable, this just not my cup of tea, 2 weeks have passed and no sign of improvement in my experience.
