Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

I understand that certain protocols have to be shaped, but for me everything has been throttled to death for the past few days.

Same here, I really wanted to stick with them. They've been so great to me the last 2years or so with service and quality. But until i know they have sorted things out I'm cancelling my account and moving somewhere more reliable next week.

Im not going to pay for a service when I have to come to a third party forum so i can find out whats happening with my ISP and line speed. Its just not acceptable, they dont mention anything on their website or send emails to their clients... nor do they even tell their support desk to inform users of the current problem. I've logged multiple calls and sent multiple emails and not once was i told there was a QOS issue until I got to breaking point and decided to do my own research.

Just seems shady and underhanded after i've always been up to date on my monthly payments for my 4mb uncapped account, i feel betrayed

they were all gloating when they announced that they moved to mtn and every1 said it could not be done.
they proved it can be done. they also proved it shouldnt be done.
BY the rate you are losing customers you might all be unemployed soon and i wont drop any pennies in your afrihost afriCANS.

Its already the end of 2012 and mtn still cant supply the whole south africa with good solid 3g while other small isp's are already introducing 4g.

what on earth made afrihost think that mtn could handle all the adsl uncapped users

At least Google now routes local on the new network, took them long enough since they already had peering up.

I was trying to do a speed test now to see how my line is doing but I can't even get the site to open.
Massive AfriFail.

This is really starting to get on my nerves, I couldn't even log on to dota 2 last night. Did a speed test afterwards and got 0.64 dl and 0.72 upload on a 10 meg line. I also got the same info from the support team that its my port that is bugging and its telkoms fault. I've been with Afrihost since they got their new uncapped package and line bundles was really great the first 3 months after that all went to sh@t. So over this cancelling today.

What are your guys' procedure for cancelling and moving when you have the ADSL Bundle.
In the clientzone, do you guys cancel both or only unbundle and then apply at the new ISP to migrate the Telkom line, etc.

And does MWEB sell like once-off capped bundles just to keep me going until I get a new account somewhere.

I'm back to normal - may it last!

Seems I too am back to normal for now:

Hi there

First of all let me say that if our ADSL network move has in anyway affected the performance of your ADSL account with us negatively please accept my sincere apologies - It is our top priority to sort out any issues ASAP.

As you know all of our ADSL clients have been on the new network built for us by MTN since the 1st of November.

It was obviously a massive undertaking and there have been teething problems.

Unfortunately there are still some issues that are affecting a percentage of our clients and I promise you that it is our top priority to resolve these.

Afrihost, Axxess and MTN's tech teams are working (literally) night and day to get all the kinks sorted out 100%.

Before we get onto the problems here are some interesting stats since the move:

The overall capacity of IPC we have available to us now as compared to when we were on the IS network is significantly higher.

While we didn't know exactly how many Gbps of IPC our (Afrihost and Axxess) clients were using on the IS network (since they managed the network), we do know this:

We are currently delivering 38.27% MORE GBs on average every day to our clients on the new network than we were a month ago.

Here are the problems we are having and how we are sorting them out:

1. Average latency in Cape Town has increased marginally (by about 50ms) as we don't have a Cape Town IPC yet. However, we will be getting an IPC in Cape Town early in the new year which should remedy this.

2. The biggest challenge we've been having is with our home or consumer Uncapped product. We are trying to ensure the best possible experience for each uncapped client - for this reason we do not want to throttle our users in any way. Instead we are focusing on prioritising protocols: We aim to give higher priority to real time actions (such as surfing, email, Youtube etc) and deprioritise non-realtime actions (such as torrenting) during peak hours when the network is at its busiest.

However, at times the protocol prioritisation has not always worked as planned which has led to intermittent congestion of the network and spikes in latency.

However, I am confident that within the next day we will have solved this challenge and our user experience should be excellent again.

The Bottom Line is:

We desperately want to make your experience amazing - If you have not been happy with your ADSL connection's performance I encourage you to PM Afriman or email him at [email protected] with feedback and we'll do our best to help!

Hope this clears things up.

Thanks and keep well

Ftp is completely useless for me atm.
