Another hour since my last post and speeds still very stable for me.

This streamed perfectly (Ok, it's only 240P, but worth a watch ;) )

So far I've been streaming 720P without a hitch. 1080P hiccup'd a bit, but still managed just fine.

Meh,im taking speedtest results with a pinch of salt. My speedtest showed a nice round 0.07

NZB is downloading at 425KB/s directly thereafter though

When will they fix the uncapped accounts, since 12:30 my internet is so slow that I can do nothing, takes ages to reload the webpage.

I've found that on my Afrihost account different speedtest servers give very different results. Try the MTN server, it flies ;)

seems to be soo much better now :). Its not _as fast_ as it used to be (1.8Mbps), however it is a damn site faster than 2 days ago 0.6Mbps off a 2mb line.

@Afriman, correct me if im wrong here, But according to Gians letter, am i correct in assuming that Afrihost is removing throttling rates and simply increasing the Shaping services? I.e. shaping torrents and p2p during the day from 8am - 5pm but allowing Email, Youtube and social media protocols to go at full speed? Im just curious as to the implications for us users now. I average just over 100gigs a month on my 2Mb line for fear of being dropped to a 384kbps line (CANT GO BACK!!), simply wanted to know how to the new structure is now going to work :)

Agreed ... time period is key.

As mentioned much earlier in the post, I did over 200GB last month (of which about 60GB or so was due to an error with my NZB software redownloading encrypted files ... again ... stay away from Mysterbin!!!).

However, I do not think 200GB over 30 days is unreasonable (I limit my download speed to 400kb/s during the day and open up between 12 and 6am). But if it's 200GB since the 1st ... then yoh yoh yoh!!!

I've done 250GB in the last 30 days, which is below the 4Mb threshold, never mind I'm on a 10Mb account.
So 1000 of me is 250TB, which aint so bad.

A few guys have asked this, so here's the full answer.

We will not be doing full throttle (rate limiting) any more. We will still have a rolling window, and based on the rolling window total vs threshold, we will start de-prioritising download protocols like torrents and nzb's. The more the threshold limit is exceeded, the less priority this traffic will be given. However these will still be full throughput on real time services like browsing, youtube, gaming, VoIP. However, if you're still running torrents at the same time, you're basically in contention with yourself, i.e. slow down on the torrents. I am told that closing all other services may then give you better torrents speeds if you're in this pool.

Our tests today showed we could torrent at 1Mbps, still have full browsing speed and watch a 10minute 720p youtube video with minimal bufffering. So even heavy users are still going to get a good experience.

To put it in perspective, on our last month with IS, the same percentile of users used less than 130TB (or thereabout)

mybroadband.co.za speedtest

Download Speed: 133 kbps (16.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 333 kbps (41.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 249 ms

Speeds are definitely much better tonight. YouTube is a bit erratic as per this graph and 720p definitely buffers (hardly much else going on the line for now)

So I have a question please. I am on a capped 35gig account. I also have a 10mb line. I normally download TV Series in the evenings. Will I also now be throttled and get a bad download speed? I sure hope not.

they dont shape on Isidingo torrents
