OT:

Also an old WA subscriber then?

I got so fed up with them constantly asking the same question with no results.

Might need to change it soon with the way things are going currently.

Simple:

Make a matrix of mybb username + actual username, then use that instead of... "aaaaaah eeeeeh oooohhhhhh client code?"

Yeah i was;)

My client used around 40GB / month - they just wanted no suprises like being capped at the end of the month or not having to worry if a big update came along...

Reason why I switched to uncapped this month. Got tired of monitoring my usage and having to plan updates. 80% of my bandwidth is work or studies related.

Moved to afrihost uncapped from telkom on friday. Probably a bad idea because now i can't tell if the lag spikes all the time are from afrihost or my congested exchange. Also get wierd timeouts during gaming every 30mins or so.

They are having problems, but I have figured a way around the timeouts while gaming. I'll try and explain it so it is easy to understand. Basically when you are web browsing, on their end your connection appears to be in use, when you are gaming, your connection appears idle. They are resetting idle connections, so every one who is gaming gets an automatic reset (dropped connection) every 20 minutes or so, as it appears that your connection is idle.

The way around this is to open another tab and run an ajax script that auto refreshes, so your your connection does not appear to be idle.

Try this one:

http://www.jquery4u.com/demos/auto-refresh-div-content/

It is not perfect, but it may help gamers through, while they sort out their issues. Hopefully they will think about the gamers soon and not just about people browsing the web.

Intriguing...i'd assume FF with an auto-refresh webpage would have similar effect then

This seems to be an MTNNS issue.

What about pinging something non stop?

All these theories about idle timeouts are completely off course. Tell you why: I have constant pings and http SYNs going from my monitoring package to google.com and a couple of other sites. And I still suffer.

I have not tried that, might give it a go, but the link I posted works great for me. I was getting dropped connections every 20 minutes before I used it. I am actually on Capped, but thought the info may be useful for gamers having the same problem on uncapped as well.

That's what is happenign every 30mins or so. The worst is the damn spikes all the time, but it's far worse when in game than just pinging in windows even though it only uses like 10% of my 1mb line.

I have a 4Mbs business account with Afrihost, I'm currently getting 0.4Mbs. That's 10% of what I'm paying for, and it's business hours.
