I know that torrents are shaped, here is a torrent that downloaded for 4 hours and 30 minutes. It started at 13:00 and got done at 17:30

screenshot

Now you can clearly see that in the start it was at about 1/4 of my 2MB Line speed = 50kB/s

then it went a bit crazy and at 17:00 it went to the MAX!!

Total average was 86kB/s

1.3 GB file, this is a bit LONG but it is a Torrent AND I was doing general browsing during the download!

So overall I am happy with my 2MB Line!

Ok last post for the thread since I am being censored from here. What u said there is my main reason for being so extremly peed off by Afrihost. If we as users was informed before November about their new shaping / extreme throttling policies, then I would have cancelled in October and all would have been ok. I could barely make 5GB in a week on a 4MB line so not a user that abuse the network.

Well that is my last 2c for this thread. Delete it if you want don't really care much anymore, Afrihost as a company is dead to me now.

Not what I said. :/

I didn't intend implying that your answer was a flippant one, just that the average uncapped user would rather see reasonable thresholds than being reigned back from the first megabyte.

Speeds are good I see +- 400kbs :D

Download Speed: 3902 kbps (487.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 857 kbps (107.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 25 ms

Erm Afriman, you still didn't answer my question which was why should I pay Afrihost R397 this month for a 4mb service that is not being delivered properly to me ?

Edit: speeds are good at the moment, question is for how long till it ****s out again...

getting decent speeds now closer to 200KB ... not constant ... but still way better than a constant 60KB
strangely ... only got this once I restarted my router ... so maybe its something to try before your tests

Edit: Spoke too soon ... it seems like it was just a glitch on the AH system .. back to 60KB

10mb uncapped, Durban, 7:30pm, Tuesday:

Usage for the month - 177gB

speedtest.net: Max 126kBps
NNTP: Max 126kBps
http download (download.cnet.com): Max 126kBps

I seem to be throttled, but heres the kicker...

YouTube 1080p video: Full line speed (1.1mBps)

lolwut? :p

Hi Guys, while I understand the need for QOS, it's seriously screwing some users at this stage. I pay for a 4Mb account but only have a 2Mb line, not a heavy user really, about 60Gb to 100Gb a month split between online gaming, youtube and downloads. My downloads have not gone any faster than 60Kb/s the whole day. So basically you instantly removed more than 66% of the value of having an uncapped account with you guys, the old policy of throttling heavily during business hours was fine.

I'll be reasonable and give it some time, but this is not the same product it was in the past, and if it does not improve I sense you guys are going to lose a lot of customers, me included although I'd hate to go.

Just cancelled my account with Afrihost.

1. No Cape Town IPC
2. Afrihost QoS - paying for 4mb uncapped but due to QoS only 1mb speed on certain services.

Hope you get things sorting out.

Best of luck to you.

Experience is even worse than earlier this week. In Cape Town - 1Mbps line - downloading torrents at MAX 10Kbps

Come on Afrihost - seriously - what's going on?

For me tonight packet loss, latency and disconnects are the worse it has been since the switch over.
