Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Its simple people having issues just cancel and move. Openweb is performing perfectly for me.

My last day on Afrihost! whoop!

Amazing thing is, I used to download more on my Webafrica 1mb uncapped than i did this month with my Afrihost 2mb uncapped. Webafrica is crappy but at least you know where you stand with them, they are upfront about shaping and rolling windows. Afrihost is just random and when I urgently need a file I'm throttled down to 15kb.

On to greener openweb fields :D

Everything was fine for me last night, did live streaming at 720p and was downloading at 1mb/s on my 10mb uncapped over torrents.

I also did speedtests to paris and was getting around 210-220ms so it seems fine

I was getting full line speed this morning, but I'm downloading at 30kbps now. Even on http downloads.

by far one of the worst nights for internet on afrihost today, dota 2 pings sit at 380ms to 420ms

If your line was not used to do something else while you where doing these trace routes, I would say you have a problem at your exchange based on the 2nd lines of your trace being massively high.

Any timescale for the new capacity?

Afriman said:

We placed orders for more IPC capacity months ago, for local capacity in CT and DBN, to compliment what we already have in Gauteng. This will give us more flexibility in managing bandwidth and give us the opportunity to allow more access to bandwidth for downloading. Reality is that this may only arrive in Feb (or later), due to Telkom infrastructure limitations. We simply cannot move any faster on this. What we are doing is also planning major infrastructure changes on MTN's network to handle the additional capacity, so that are no backhaul issues when Telkom gets their side sorted. Literally millions have and will be spent on getting things to where they should be.

I am currently playing World of Warcraft, and latency is spot on. However, HTTP downloads are horribly slow. Getting about 15KB/s on those.

29KB/s on my NNTP,no like this shaping to death
Even torrents aren't shaped this heavily -.-
Otherwise all good

So what are things looking like today guys? :)

Seems fine. However, it would be great if the SpecialOps guys could respond to a ticket when it's raised, not 18 hours later when the problem has already gone away...

Despite being an explicitly prioritised service, Youtube is going at less than half of line speed here. Other downloads go at roughly 1/16th of line speed. So much worse than usual.

We'll need to look into that. YouTube should always get top priority as you say.

PM me? :)
