Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

I'm too scared to update my Xbox 360. If the download fails or gets a time-out, is there a risk of bricking it?

You obviously failed to read my reply was directed to torrents, and then you deliberately misquoted me to push your own agenda or were you feeling a bit left out of the conversation and wanted attention drawn to you? So you got what you asked for buddy.

Aaand we have another troll.

Ran the test 3 times and all three times it was bad on the NY node.

Just hit a speed test there too, I'm getting 0.2... Hit washinton and I'm getting 1.7 there. Why would NY be so bad?

Oh please, you tried to inject your business issues into a perfectly fine youtube vs torrent discussion, and you have the nerve to come around here calling ME a troll. Besides, I gave you sound advise. Get a business connection, or a cellc backup for urgent stuff (i hear there is an awesome deal going on right now!), call up afrihost and bitch, moan or even move providers. It's your bread and butter so make a plan!

All of those are good advise... misquoting me to say I think it's ok for businesses downloads to take a day is not such a good idea though and it wont solve any of your connection problems. I have nothing more to say to you. Move along.

A very angry troll, in fact.

Wtf is this 2012 replying to every post, I couldn't care less about what he has to say.
I read this forum to see feedback from afriman not to read 500 meaningless posts from 2012.

Well, funny thing about public discussion forums, people are allowed to discuss. (I do find it ironic that you complain about people posting instead of afriman yet you do the same thing that annoys you.)

But if you here to see afrimans posts and my posts are getting in the way, there are some tricks:

Go to User CP (it's that the top of the page), on the left there is a panel called My Settings, under that there is Edit Ignore List. Simply add my name (or anyone else annoying you), click Okay, wait for the screen refresh and then click Save Changes. Now you wont be seeing my meaningless posts anymore! (you're welcome).

Another cool feature is that if you click on someones name, you can view all there post message, so go click on Afrimans name and you then use that to keep just a feed from him to see when he as anything interesting to say (on the left called find latest posts. Again, you're welcome.)

aaaah Friday night entertainment just started, *gets the popcorn out*
Ha ha, sorry to disappoint :P

I only see one hypocritical troll so far.
:D

@afriman
The AH app is pretty useless only showing usage from the 1st of the month - please ask your software department to also show a 30 day rolling window usage.

Since yesterday I been seeing an asston of praises and worshipping of afrihost on their facebook page and this confused the crap out of me, given how uncapped performs like a mule! I though it must've been afrihost employees or their families, but then I spotted a competition they're running. I lol'd

I'm assuming from the focus on trolling, that ADSL issues are minimal to non-existent - which is great news :)

But speaking of trolling, guys it's not cool. While I appreciate when people jump in to help when I'm not able to respond in time, it just creates a negative vibe in an other wise open and awesome thread. Everyone should feel safe to post what they need to, and the only person who should really be responding to multiple posts is me, or if posts are directed at a forum member. It's unpleasant to have to get MyBB to send warnings and ban notices to people, but it will be done to ensure that all our clients feel safe to talk to us here - that is the purpose of this thread and my being here. Nobody should have to remove other users from their feed or do anything other than read this forum for information and feedback. This is not directed at anyone specific, but if you read and this and have any doubts, drop me a PM, I'm always available for a chat :)

So yes, we do have a competition, but it only asks people to Like or Follow us. The praise and compliments are from client's own initiative. So as I've tried to explain many times, while I totally acknowledge that there are issues and some of our clients are battling, we have tens of thousands of happy clients - it's great to see them also weighing in on our service and support :)

There is an issue with data allocation for the new month, esp on capped accounts which should be resolved now.

If not, please drop me a PM and our Dev team will have this sorted ASAP :)

Ah, that explains it. I was also scratching my head over it when I saw it this morning.

Cheap way for Afrihost to skew public perceptions, because now everybody who goes to their Facebook page sees compliments instead of the complaints about how god-awful the service levels actually are. Well played, though, Afrihost. It's very underhanded, but a very smart move nonetheless.

I'd advise caution before any others decide to post such borderline slanderous drivel.

The long and short of it is that we are the vocal minority who are, firstly, on uncapped accounts, who secondly do download a substantial amount in a given month and who thirdly notice the moment we're getting 50kB/s less than we ideally should.

I think it's time we all simmer down to a mild panic; this emotionally charged hogwash is utterly counter-productive.

Slander? No, my dear Simian friend, it's merely logic 101. If you had bothered to follow their Facebook page you'd have seen it's been filled with complaints for weeks, possibly months now. Having this on your primary social media page for such an extended amount of time obviously does not bode well for a company's reputation. I'm sure you can follow the train of thought from there. :)

However, I apologize as I might have jumped to an early conclusion. Arksun, I'm not seeing this competition you're talking about. Care to link to it?

Compared to my line speed, I've downloaded substantially less this month compared to the previous month, yet Afrihost support told me that my line has been 'managed down' and that was the reason for me getting 1/16th of my line speed. Whether or not that was true, or they simply apply this throttling into the ground to everyone, I cannot say for sure.

Long story short: It seems to me like everyone is affected. Even at parties and other social gatherings, people will bring up Afrihost and ask if anyone else are using them and having problems as well, something I've never seen with any other ISP.
