Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Afriman we need trial accounts. Even if its only for a day or so. Perhaps afrihost could implement something. It's really the best way to restore confidence, since quite a few customers got burned and will be unlikely to give afrihost a go for quite some time.

When all the upgrades are fully deployed, I'll see what I can do. Maybe they'll let me do a massive discount special again ;)

When I see you post something, I know you're complaining about something. Why don't you just ask your mommy to cancel your afrihost account and move on.

Not very nice :(

As long as people are still clients, I'm happy to hear their feedback. No-one should feel uncomfortable to post legit feedback in this forum ever!

And I can ALWAYS be PM'ed if you want your comments to be kept private :)

Been having great internet through most of December until this evening. It seems to be a shaping issue, because the first second or two of the speedtest jumps to 8Mbit every time, and then goes down from there to 0.9Mbit. The consistency of the result indicates to me a shaping issue. Probably due to higher loads with everyone back from holiday.

This one seems to be oddly low, with no jump to 8Mbit, so I suspect an issue with the server in this case.

And here I was thinking of signing up tomorrow after the telkom guy finishes glueing the wires that he so eloquently left unconnected this evening...

So how long should I hold my breath before I sign up for a bundled offer with that massive discount special?

Afriman, could you please clarify the throttling policy and monthly duration on AH's uncapped accounts? What are the limits, what is the average use of the 20% top consumers who are supposed to be throttled for instance? The policy states throttling will be applied to historic usage, over what period of time is this "history" measured? The policy states that throttled users will be unthrottled after congestion clears up however I have come across a few posts where users allege* they remained throttled throughout and beyond the limits of a month period

(*note, allege: since we don't know if its sour grapes talking or actual factual accounts, I for one, as a prospective ADSL user can merely be guided by what MyBB users post here in the various feedback topics over their experiences)

Thought I'd reinstall The Witcher 2 and finally get to finish it. Install it and now its downloading a 10GB patch at 20Kbps

That is when I haul out my 3 gig capped account ............ er I guess it won't work for a 10 gig patch ......... Then wait till after midnight, I have in the past seen speeds climb after the bewitching hour.

Ferryman! I also would like those answers .............. I doubt we will get them.

Be happy its only a 10Gb patch (probably updating to enhanced edition) I have to dl 16 or 17gb to get the game running, apparently steam and cd project red hate new customers :)

I think the AUP on our website still mentions Uncapped throttling (which is now out of date). We don't throttle anymore. Let me clarify. Throttle is when a user is directly rate limited (on all services) to a lower speed as a punitive measure for exceeding a particular download.

We now use QoS to prioritise real time services. This is regardless of whether you are a light or heavy user, you will always get the best possible speeds the network will allow. When it comes to downloads, especially torrents, we give as much of the remaining bandwidth to downloads, and the system dynamically adjust the available bandwidth to give the best throughput, while ensuring priority services are protected. So there are no values I could give to say download this much and you're fine. It analyzes bandwidth usage patterns, total bandwidth used, and several other factors to determine how much throughput can be allocated, and this changes on a continual basis.

Must say since the Shaper rules have been adjusted to not kill off downloads from 8am-12pm i'm far more enjoying the experience,I can actually get updates done before bed

i just wanted to say that Afrihost rocks, being stuck at home over the holdays and our PTAWUG not working, I've been abusing my uncapped acount quite a bit, without experiencing and problems or slowdowns.
I have however received an e-mail from support with my usage log today - maybe a hint that I've overindulged this festive season?

How much have you used, and what line speed do you have, if I may ask?

That would be nice. I'm sure quite a few here would give afrihost another go. But only do it once the network is 100%.

Shoo! I have been getting around 20kb during the daytime for the last few days. Super ***!

@Afriman , thank you for the clarification. Yes the current AUP does mention throttling, I read it through before signing up this morning. Maybe just at some point have an update on that, as (for one of the minority of people who scrutinise a terms and conditions policy and rules policies) I'm sure others who are perusing the forum and seeing the old throttle-problems might be put off by it.

Now all I need to do I's twiddle my thumbs counter clockwise, knock my ruby slippers, turn the bed knob and tap thrice, stand on my head and gargle jelly and hope that Telkom converts my line for ADSL service in the absolute record breaking time of tomorrow night (I'll have to get home for those ruby slippers first...)

Thumbs held :P

Line conversion are pretty quick now ! I think my line was re-enabled in just over 5 days!
