Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Cape Town should be back to normal, or in the process of normalising. We're seeing regular throughput on the IPC, and other areas affected by routing should also be stabilising now.

Thanks for being patient, we know it's been pretty awful for the Cape Town guys. Let's hope that if the previous hardware was failing intermittently, the new one will deliver even better ADSL performance.

:)

Upgraded (LOL!) to a capped solution for the interim while I investigate a move to Telkom uncapped for the family and a wireless solution for when I move to the new complex. I am over Down-Syndrome internet.

I don't know, but for me nothing has returned to normal, I have already send a SMS help to Afrihost hours ago, but nobody contacted me yet.
I don't know if it is still the IPC, a Telkom routing problem or my exchange.

I get very erratic results now.

Hmm, my torrent traffic seems to have picked up since I last checked at 5pm. Went out for a braai and got back to see I'm almost utilizing line speed again, 100kB/s less but its better that infinity-completion times.

Will however have to see what its like tomorrow during normal daytime/office hours to know if its back to normal or if the midnight window just moved up earlier

EDIT: 09:59PM, max speed back down to 25kB/s

errrrrr they ARE getting PAID for it! You can do the above if it was voluntary staff.

Just because youre paid to do something doesnt mean you cant be thanked and acknowledged for working during undesirable times. Little bit of gratitude will get you further in life.

Afriman, I am a capped 4Meg user in Stellenbosch and nothing has improved here. Download 0.37 Mbps Latency 517ms and this has been the pattern over the last month. The support guys keep on saying it is a Telkom problem in Cape Town and do not know when it wiil be resolved. In fact the best service I got was yesterday when you rerouted via Jhb - latency 60ms and downloads at 3,2 Mbps. All the special offers of additional Gigs are totally useless if there is no service. Can we get some reliable info for a change?

That is very odd. I'm racking my brain to think of how that is even possible, but honestly stumped. General reports from Cape Town are that speeds are good and stable, basically what they've been since the IPC went live. If this was the case for a whole month, you would have been routing through JHB prior to the IPC going live, so it doesn't really explain. It may be coincidence that congestion on your exchange abated for a short time. Just reaching here, but I think we'd have to get our specialists on this to find out exactly what is happening.

Will you drop me a PM?

well AH site says all good in the world of the web but,,,

Test conducted on 10 March 2013 21:58
Download Speed: 2856 kbps (357 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 377 kbps (47.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 324 ms

4mb line and if this is routing via the CPT IPC then latency needs to be fixed ASAP

Got a mail from MTN noc about a call they just closed for a problem in tygerberg at the same time the problems started. Coincidence?

Assume you talking about the Data Center

"Test my ADSL line" just gave me a "Test Failed" reply, thrice.

The Line test failed
Please try again. If you still have problems, please contact us.

I'm guessing if line test fails, "repair my line" will not yield any better result?

Are any of you guys in the Bellvile or Durbanville area? Can you confirm that there is a connectivity issue.

I see Telkom have posted a notice in Bellvile, but mentions slow connectivity. Nothing reported on Durbanville yet. Both those exchanges have been having issues of late.

Please let me know if this is the case if you're in those areas. Any other CT exchanges that also seem to have no connectivity?
