Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Just before leaving for work, my account was performing much better. Hopefully when I get home things will still be good.

Depends what time. This morning at about 7am i was getting 4Mbps. Now:

Download Speed: 1497 kbps (187.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 566 kbps (70.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 127 ms

I guess all office workers everywhere are on facebook

Latency is through the roof this morning, but it's the same with my uncapped account.
I am getting 200ms+ on both, but throughput is fine +-3.5mb on both.

So this is something else again.

EDIT: But I am somewhat comforted by the Network fully operational sign

Must admit, getting throttled speeds due to congestion on the network when my usage is below the thresholds is somewhat harrowing:erm:

Yes, as there are no reported network problems, the only conclusion I can draw is that the service is over subscribed and, as a result, the contention ratios are high, very high.

Latency is also down the drain here....capped account. Logs show it started at between 8AM & 9AM. So once again it looks like their IPC links are oversubscribed. either that or there is an IPC problem.....who knows...frustrating. Since launching their new uncapped accounts their capped service has gone from stable/excellent to erratic, high latency, youtube buffering...etc etc. I would have thought that capped accounts got priority over the uncapped ones :-(

We are currently experiencing latency and packet loss on our DSL network the cause is still unknown and our upstream providers are investigating

We apologize for the inconvenience and delays caused and the matter should be rectified shortly

Thank you for your patience and understanding

Ye I saw that...I still maintain it is congested IPC...maybe Afriman can shed some light...

We are still waiting for IS to give us an official report on the slow speed issue. It could be due to IPC issues, or oversubscription on their network. We'll need to get a full report and way forward from them, and I will post as much info as I can.

Whether it is IPC or oversubscription, I am really confident that these will be well catered for once we move because we'll have more IPC, more redundancy and there will also be no other ISP's (except MTN Business) running on the network. It's all looking extremely positive (i.e. light at the end of the tunnel).

Will let you guys know when IS come back with an answer :)

Just signed up with Axxess for a 3GB capped account to test the waters.Could not even get 50% of my line speed on usenet and this is on a capped account!!
The IS network is well and truly borked

And as expected 5PM comes around and latency slowly plummets back to normal levels...in my eyes sure sign of congestion.
