Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

I requested a line upgrade with Afrihost almost 2 weeks ago....and still waiting......

Telkom is instant......

I don't think even Telkom can upgrade you instantly. They have to assign a technician who has to move you from one port card to another, depending on whether there are slots available.

If you're talking about syncing at a higher rate on the same product (i..e Fastest DSL) then we can also do so instantly. If that's what you've requested it shouldn't take that long at all. Either way, drop me a PM, and let's find out what's going on :)

Whats going on with international speeds tonight?

I'm getting a bit frustrated with this account tbh..

Nothing:
You won't get perfect speeds to all servers, totally unlikely!

MYBB Intern:
Test conducted on 6/9/2013 10:18:20 PM

Download Speed: 8078 kbps (1009.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 762 kbps (95.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 164 ms

I upgraded at Telkom from 1mb to 2mb to 4mb in 1 week and each time it was upgraded 5-30 mins later. :)

Telkom say 48 hours, actual 12 hours (Thursday lunch time to Friday morning) They sms'd me Monday to say job done.
Funny how Telkom don't like using a Landline ................

Ye they do say that, but funny enough mine was upped right away. Luck I guess :)

How does Afrihost Uncapped perform during the day?

From personal experience Afrihost is amazing during the day and night for that matter too. I'm able to do whatever I need to during the day which I never could at any previous ISP, Afrihost has been great.

HEY!!!!! Don't pick on me, I have no problems at all, I am as happy as a pig in **** using AH Business.
The only time I report here is if there is an all round general error/outage for comparison, and fault finding for others.

But generally my ADSL runs perfect since my exchange port was swapped about 3 months ago.

Haha, ill just keep my big mouth shut now... :P

Hey Afriman.

I just have a question about how your 'Test my line' works.

It states I have 25.5db attenuation at "ADSL Router Results (Your Location)", but 41db Attentuation at "DSLAM Results (Telkom Exchange)".

My router states my attenuation is 41db which is in line with the "DSLAM Results (Telkom Exchange)" reading.

I checked my neighbors ADSL Attenuation and they also have it in line with the "DSLAM Results (Telkom Exchange)" reading (41db).

Does the 2x higher "DSLAM Results (Telkom Exchange)" reading mean that something is wrong in the last few meters of my line, or is this a normal reading?

Thanks.

Hi Everyone, quick question. What are your usual sync rates for your 10Meg line?

I know this is probably noob, but surely (if you ignore exchange overheads etc) the line should sync at 10240? Mine sync's at 10015, does everyone else's do the same?

"The amount of resistance on the line. A value below 55dB is good." - Afrihost Clientzone

If im correct, and I may be wrong, the more attenuation is worse as it means there is more resistance on the line. My ADSL router results are also below the exchange results in the Attenuation department...

However, now that I look at it, it doesn't make sense that my exchange has a worse Attenuation than my Router.

http://www.speedguide.net/faq_in_q.php?qid=371:
20dB and below is outstanding
20dB-30dB is excellent
30dB-40dB is very good
40dB-50dB is good
50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues
60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues

It's difficult to say, the test we run is through an API to Telkom's own systems, which test at the exchange. Your router is obviously testing at the other end. Generally speaking those values should be similar, but it also depends if you are comparing upload to download or vice versa. I would personally trusts Telkom's stats over the router. Either way, as long as you're below 55dB, in theory you should be fine.

Are you talking about actual sync rate or max sync rate. It can vary greatly according to your distance to exchange, etc. If you're syncing at anything over 10,000, and getting good SNR and ATT reports, then it should be all good :)

@Afriman, sent you a pm, can you please look at it urgently! And please get someone to contact me ASAP

I feel that I am a very important man in my village and so searching is beneath me.

I want to get the R897 10mb line Bundle

1) When do I stop paying telkom and when do I pay Afrihost or do they sort all of that out for me?
2) I want to do about 300gb a month. Also I want to run Hulu. Will this work
