Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Best speeds mean 25% Which is pathetic

As I've mentioned before, we don't actually set the shaping. We provide the capacity and we set the rules. Usage is determined by clients. We have no interest or intention to shape for any reason other than to protect the network and optimise performance under the current conditions.

JHB and DBN users can attest that there is very little shaping ever, and performance is excellent. We strongly believe and recommend that Cape Town users start looking at maximising the available capacity, as there is still plenty of available bandwidth off peak to more than satisfy demand.

Which means that JHB and DBN users do most of their downloads between midnight and 6 AM? Can the users in said centers confirm that? Thanks.

I don't know when sickbeard snatches stuff, I just know it's there in the morning. Automated downloads are very convinient and doesn't take much to setup.

Not necessarily, but it does mean that usage is spread out by users, rather than concentrated over the same period, allowing us to shape as little as possible.

Does AH have 6mb uncapped accounts? Really want HD on Netflix snd Hulu Plus.

We have a 6Mbps Business product, though for normal "home" Uncapped, you would need to choose between 4Mbps and 10Mbps. 10Mbps (especially on a bundle) is a very good deal, so that may suit you best :)

PM me if you have questions :)

We're having a problem with authentications at the moment. Our guys are busy working on the issue, and it seems they should be close to resolving this. Please don't disconnect your session until we have sorted this out, as you may have authentication failures when trying to reconnect.

Sorry for the inconvenience guys, we're working on this as highest priority :(

Looks like we all good again! Great turnaround on this issue from our network team.

Looks like no-one here was affected, but drop me a PM if you are still battling. A quick router reboot should sort you out though :)

Wow. Again??

How difficult is it now to run a proper authentication environment receiving authentication from MTN's proxies ?? Is it not time for your guys to maybe go on a course on how to run a proper environment or will SAIX be blamed once again ?? Still very strange why only Afrihost ends up being affected with all these authorization problems so often.

The mind boggles.

Michael

We've restored all ADSL connectivity and will be monitoring the network closely.
Thanks for everyones patience here, it's much appreciated :)

UPDATE 18:55 29 June 2013 Our engineers have restored authentication to normal, and ADSL performance is stabilising. We will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that there is no reoccurrence. We apologise to clients affected by the issue & we sincerely thank them for their patience.

+1

Yes, the mind boggles, this is getting old.

So glad I made the move last year Nov, not a days trouble and pretty much unshaped bliss after 5pm every day, day in day out. Yes, that's right, not only can I stream whatever, but I can also download HTTP, P2P & NNTP at 420kB ALL THE TIME (after 5, half speed sometimes during the day).

Some people know how to apportion enough bandwidth.

Troll Out. (Still hating u guys after I was forced to pay for 2 accounts last year Nov with no "I'm sorry, here have the month free seeing you only used 5 days")

My internet is off. Red light on the router - anyone else down? Eastern Cape.

Anyone know how long Afrihost takes to verify your ID on a weekend?

I needs my 10Mb/s uncapped now!
