Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

As I understand it, the 5% shaping is on torrents / ntp and file sharing sites.

Got p2p running and speed "for my p2p" is normal.
You mean nntp, ntp is the time server :-) nntp is UseNet :-)

I am now even more disgusted with the turn of events...
You go say you will unshape the uncapped as per this article http://mybroadband.co.za/news/adsl/71908-afrihost-uncapped-adsl-now-unshaped.html and then wait, you shape again...
This is the worst form of false advertising...
Sooooo disappointed after all the mails sent to Gian, no response...
Always the old generic answers...
Guys get your act together

From your link, dated March 7th: "Afrihost is confident that their additional capacity will more than handle the additional traffic, and after a week has passed they will re-assess their current shaping policies."

Then, of course, we've had to contend with substantial disruptions to multiple undersea cables since the 22nd.

Don't blame others for your inability to read articles beyond the headline.

The only person you should be disgusted in is yourself, for not able to read everything.

Ja, I also got suckered by this article!!! Immediately switched my capped to uncapped. Lost my 'Special R99 for 10Gb' and now have to pay the full R190 to switch back at the end of the month!!! Am not very impressed with Afrihost over this.

Click on the link - read it - and then please tell me where it says that there will be selective shaping. The headline says it all! They do say that they will re-asses the situation after a week and if they then decided to resume shaping/throttling they could surely have had the courtesy to inform their uncapped clients particularly new uncapped accounts. The headline should also have indicated that this was probably only a temporary thing.

First of all this is a MYBB news snippet, not the exact wording of Afrihost.
You should know to read news articals with some sort of objectivity.

Afrihost is confident that their additional capacity will more than handle the additional traffic, and after a week has passed they will re-assess their current shaping policies.

The original news release is here, and very different wording used as the Headline.

There is nothing in the news article that indicated that this is a permanent action.
It was only to say thank you for sticking it out during the transition period, and for them to gather data so they can adjust there QoS Shaping policies.

Well surely Afrihost must have known about the misleading My BB article/headline and should have immediately asked them to clarify their actual intention. I did not see the original Afrihost article as had I done so I definitely would not have made the costly switch! (Extra R1200 a year).
I am obviously not the only one who made the mistake based on the information given and I will go off and lick my wounds. This will be my last comment on this subject.

Permanantly being shaped, constant 60 kbps since yesterday; even after midnight on 2mb line
What happened to this 'amazing' network with 60% more capacity?
I have downloaded 125gigs so far, I think that completely reasonable

How is it anyone's responsibility but yours to ensure that you don't get swept along by a headline? Should Afrihost ring you up in the evenings to ensure you've locked your front door? :wtf:

Okay I did say that I was no longer going to comment on this subject but your juvenile response just can't go unanswered. Firstly had the My BB headline been the lead in an advertisement for Afrihost's uncapped service I can guarantee that there would have been a flood of complaints and the ASA would have quickly shut it down. Your facetious last line doesn't warrant a response. BTW I am sticking with Afrihost as besides the recent problems I have previously had good service from them and hope this will continue.
