Reaper84:

I lost patience because 1. - Telkom told me the line has already been migrated so they can't bump up the speed, 2 - Afrihost told me they can't bump up my speed even to 4mbps.

The person at Telkom who you spoke with lied or is just lazy!
Or they can't bump you line speed because it is not stable enough for the faster speed, so they just pass the bug to Afrihost, instead of dealing with it, bump your speed up, or improve the quality of the copper.

Either way, Telkom remains the responsible party, it is there equipment. But you are farting against thunder if you think you going to get snappy response from Telkom to fix , IF there is a problem.

Afrihost says the system shows 4mbps only but they can't sync it to 4mbps. Telkom website speed tester says 10mbps, and when I called they said definitely 4mbps and when line gets upgraded to 4/10mbps type they can then assess 10mbps (but website said 10mbps so they said it's possible).

Even if your exchange show your line can be bumped to 100Gbps, if the copper length and quality is not good enough, then it is not possible! it wont sync at a speed faster then what the line stability can handle!

Ok, I have cancelled the service with Afrihost. I will deal with Telkom directly on the line upgrade to 10mbps and once that is sorted I will then try the line migration.

However, I'm still not satisfied because to this point, not a single representative really told me what the problem was until I started taking action to ask around. Otherwise my application status would have been "pending" for forever.

The Telkom line check says which speed is available in your area and not particularly your exchange. We contacted Telkom on your behalf and they said they are working on upgrading the exchange to 10Mbps. Until then, the max you can get is 4Mbps.

Your process was still pending when we checked yesterday. Sorry for not responding, my responses didn't seem to be going through. Apologies for leaving you out of the loop. I checked on your account following yesterdays conversation.

Post your line stats here. Chances are your noise and attenuation don't support the speeds you're trying to get.

Hi, thanks so much for your reply. I'm just waiting patiently now...

Dear Afriman/Afrigirl

For your 20mb/40mb bundles something is wrong with the prices.
20mb - R1897 (bundle)

20mb Data - R997
20mb line - R499

40mb - R2797 (bundle)

40mb Data - R1397
40mb line - R749
So If you don't buy a bundle you save...

Thanks for pointing that. Pricing has been corrected.

Are you guys (maybe) doing something weird with PS3 traffic/updates? Struggling downloading game updates... since I haven't done it this year. :-/

Ok. Switched to my plugg account and PS3 updates downloaded flawlessly.

On AH it constantly gave errors which stopped the download.

Afrimangirl?

Something is clearly very wrong with Afrihost and the PSN. Guys on Mweb 10Mbps saying they get 1MB/s speeds, yet my speeds on 6Mbps Afrihost business are 20-30KB/s.

Similar story on Play Store - one of my best friends gets speeds over 400KB/s on his 4Mbps Mweb Premium connection when my 6Mbps gets 150KB/s on a good day. Youtube is another example, although this has improved to the point where SD videos can usually be streamed.

Ok, so its not just me. At first I changed PS3 settings, then QoS on my router, etc etc. Made no difference.

Now on plugg I've downloaded 1.5GB of updates in a very short time. My PSN speeds seem ok, but it stops completely sometimes it seems. Just like Youtube.

I haven't been downloading (or torrenting) anything, and already my usage is above 1.8Gb so far.

I blame the two fondleslabs :D (apple and android)

Wanted to ask how you guys are finding things such as downloads of torrents as well as newshosts etc on the accounts with them?

Currently on an mweb 1mbps account and so far my speeds this month in newlands are slower than my cell phone downloads things at :/

Would you guys say that a 4mbps line is well worth it?

I'm on a business account. Torrents and news are totally unshaped 24/7. If you use the free Afrihost server, speeds won't go much faster than 150KB/s. 4Mbps is definitely worth it, particularly for streaming.
