Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

How do you check on the clientzone if you are currently being shaped. I've done 37gb this month on my 2mb uncapped.. purely because it's too slow and frustrating to actually use the internet.

If you use the new clientzone, click on connectivity. Then on the right, click on your account underneath Uncapped ADSL accounts. You'll see under Account Overview a heading Shaping policy.

Mine is currently 50% Download/ 25% P2P :(

All those guys complaining that they are shaped, you knew when signing up that is was a shaped account!

If you don't want to be shaped switch to a Business or Capped account, For the price you are currently paying Afrihost I can guarantee you will not find another ISP that can match it.

Have a look at the Mweb thread and you will see how people are squealing about torrents and NNTP on Mweb "Premium" accounts.

Even when Afrihost shape it is still faster then Mweb and cheaper!

There I said it, now I wait for you all to eat me alive :whistle:

Agreed, there's been a few versions to this Hummercellc - your's is probably v6 ;)

Wrong! Business is shaped after hours if need be.

I have done 170GB on a 2meg package normal uncapped. At the moment shaping is at 50% 25%

Same here. While I understand the shaping, I don't like it when a 2mb line is slow with normal web browsing. They say shaping is on downloading only but I know when I'm being shaped cause websites take longer to load.

Try trace routes when slow and when not "slow" I have also noticed that the network is shaped because it is busy .... Doesn't bother me.
As I said ^^^ to see if you can pin-point where. IMHO no problem posting results here, I have seen others do it and get pertinent feed back.
 
Hi all,
I recently had an issue where my line was synced at 2Mb but couldn't download at more than 512kb.
Turned out to be a crossed line close to where I live, we were both connected to my line on her account!
She had a capped account, hence the correct sync but slower dl speeds.
Telkom needed to come out and fix an error they had made at the (DSLAM?)
Afihost were very professional and helpful in resolving the problem.
 
I'm new to Business Adsl. Did the price on the 10mb Business bundle go up from R1296 which is according to the website at the moment, go upto R1397?

I was on consumer 10mb bundle earlier this month and asked afrihost to change it to the business package. Seems it was not bundled as it was supposed to be.

I just received my next months bill invoice for R1397.

Anyone on vdsl 20mbps? considering it, but it seems lots of shaping is happening at Afrihost.

With Mweb atm.

You must bundle it manually on the old clientzone.
 
Ok. I created the bundle now but afrihost should of bundled it for me when i was switched over to business by them as I had a bundle. I was using the new client zone all the time. I see bundles can only be created from the old client zone. I hope I get discounted.

I don't know if consumer uncapped which this thread is about, has vdsl BUT the shaping is only downloads and p2p WHEN the network is under pressure AND it is dynamically applied so says the Techies, BUT as soon as you get to approx 150 GB on a 2Mb package the network is DYNAMICALLY under permanent pressure!
