Hi Afriman

I was wondering if there was anything wrong with the network at the moment, as I am having trouble streaming youtube vids in 720p and I can normally stream 1080p no problem.

Firstly, It wont let me delete the double post :/

Secondly, I think the problem is bigger than slow youtube vids:

This is a 10meg line...

EDIT: Had a look at the tracert, and it seems to be a local problem again (Somerset west, happened a few weeks ago as well)

Telkom Wynburg exchange broken

Hi anyone else in the Cape Town Wynburg area having massive Internet Issues? I think my Exchange is seriously messed up and when speaking to Telkom Technical support those people don't even know what (latency or Ping is). I had to explain Ping to the engineer that came out........... That didn't exactly instill confidence in me. I know there 3de world and I know there competence isn't there strength but really is there a way to get through to them that doesn't include smoke and hand signals?

Here is my Trace route from this morning......

Just took a quick look at all our graphs, everything looks pretty normal. At this precise moment there's no shaping being applied anywhere in the country, so we're not touching anything unless demand increases.

Looks like lots of exchanges are battling as Telkom replaces 4Mbps cards with 10Mbps. Might be the case in your area. Let's hope it's not going to carry on like this for much longer :(

Definitely exchange issues there. The problem with Telkom techs is that they come and go. If you get someone who's been there for years, they may not understand it from a computer perspective, but the good ones generally understand it better from an electrical / voltage perspective, which is also very helpful. Either way, it's the luck of the draw who you get. Some hope though, Telkom have a specialist team who get involved in long term issues, with their own technicians, and those guys are very experienced and have a lot more info and resources. It may take time, but Telkom generally come through in the end.

:D

Back to normal, and my ping went from an average of 30ms to an average of 17ms, Hopefully they just completed an exchange upgrade!

And to add, Afrihost, Best.ISP.ever.

Speedtest report good speeds, but youtube buffers on 240p :(

Youtube bufferering is killing me this morning, 10meg line and buffers on 240p as well.

This makes me sad :(

Looks like the Southern region is starting to reach capacity. There's no shaping being implemented as yet, but speeds should stabilise once it kicks in and starts levelling out for best performance.

However, best to also check your traceroutes if there are any other issues. You can PM me or post them here if you'd like me to take a look
