Connection has been solid today..no more random disconnects. Hope it stays that way :)

HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

Seems neither telkom nor afrihost can solve this one:

Since i signed up with afrihost (from april) i noticed that speedtest results between local and international servers were very different (international is consistently about 1/3 of local download speed test) ive tested with mybroadband speed test and speedtest.net with the same results (saix speed test gives me crazy results such as 15mbps on a 4mbps line for some reason???)

both telkom and afrihost claim their side is clean with no detectable problems and have suggested that the problem is with my computer or modem. ive tested with different routers and computers and consistently get the same results:

Any advice appreciated.

I've got to say that I'm not seeing any issue on these trace routes, they both look pretty decent, latency solid on local and international. With speedtests, it's pretty hard to say, depends on servers used, etc, etc. Are you actually having poor international experience like slow throughput on downloads (when not shaped) ?

Whats going on Afrihost???

This is a speedtest on my 10Mbps business uncapped line.. Website browsing. streaming .. everything is slow.....

Our news server is free to access to anyone on our ADSL network. I'll let the guys who use it tell you about how they feel it performs :)

What has "not shaped" got to do with it? You have been telling us that only downloads and p2p is shaped! Which is actually a lie! Because I have noticed that "when shaped" browsing slows down.

Just noticed a serious slow down in internet all of a sudden, maybe WACS just went down? But then again, local is also abnormal. Maybe its just me.

Happened in the past few minutes, my browsing is crawling.

I was saying this:

slow throughput on downloads (when not shaped)

Not talking about browsing, I was talking about downloads (which can be shaped), and whether throughput is slow if there is no shaping applied.

I see a few inconsistent hops, but ultimately I'm not entirely unhappy with these traceroutes, unless I'm missing something. You can occassionally get timeouts even when all is good, I always recommend running three or four traceroutes, as there can sometimes be a momentary hiccup somewhere. It paints a much more detailed picture.

But drop me a PM, let's put some thought into it and see what we can come up with :)

The main reason i upgraded was for improved streaming from the likes of netfix and hulu which are international. netflix plays on low quality on one device and if i try to engage a second device it buffers regularly. hulu buffers regularly regardless...
