@Gatecrasher What modulation mode is your modem syncing on G.dmt or ADSL2+?

Also what is your SNR margin & line attenuation?

Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk 2

Modulation Type ADSL_2plus

Router is Trendnet. Have to add that I got similar poor results and symptoms on a different (Billion) router. Line stats are posted in my earlier post. The connection is very solid. I very rarely DC.

Has anyone had issues with streaming lately?

Yep!

Further to my previous post, these are my speedtests from behind my Unotelly Cape Town and London DNS servers:

Is it my pings that are a problem or could this be a Afrihost or Unotelly thing?

I've been noting all the comments about congestion in Cape Town with AH, should I be looking elsewhere if streaming (Netflix, Hulu Plus via Unotelly) is priority numbe one for me?

Just signed up with Afrihost today and I am not happy with the service.

I did the calculations and I should definitely be able to stream Youtube @ 360p without buffering. My line speed flaps up and down between 0.8Mbps and 0.2Mbps. If it stayed at the former, I would be overjoyed, but no luck.

Waiting for their technical support to get back to me tomorrow.

Will see what happens then?

Hi Afrihost,

I have a 4mb line syncing at 10mb. The problem is that I can't seam to stream HD on Netflix, Hulu Plus and now Amazon Prime.

This is the stats on my line.

SNR Margin (dB) 9.6 28.4
Line Attenuation (dB) 6.3 18.7

Is this normal? Ps. Based in CPT.

Have you used the line at 4mb? Has there been a noted difference now that you're syncing at 10mb?

Morning All.

Sorry I was not available yesterday, had some people that need saving elsewhere :(

I see AfriGirl and AfriGuy have once again picked up the slack (Thanks Guys!!) but let me know if anyone's been missed out.

I'll be going through yesterday's PMs and replying to those queries during the course of the day, but let me know if there is anything urgent that has not been addressed.

Shotto ;)

Someone mentioned many pages ago, it's like Sanral building 10 lane freeways to cope with peak hour traffic but during non-peak times, the 10 lanes are abandoned. The time will come when we do upgrade the IPC but that time hasn't come yet. We just ask that people schedule their downloads in the early hours of the morning, when usage significantly drops and shaping is more laxed.

Hi Afrigirl, thanks for the reply. I don't agree with your analogy though. From what AfriMan said, it's not Peak HOUR... it's Peak 70% of the day. If there were traffic jams on the freeways for 70% of the day, Sanral would definitely be expected to do something.

I really don't want this "conversation" to get emotional, because I think AfriHost is a great company / ISP. You just need to get your capacity up. Great job at attracting subscribers, don't drop the ball now by not having the capacity to deal with the throughput.

Is it just me or is anyone else experiencing really slow speeds in CPT today? I'm on 2mbps uncapped...

Struggling to even run http://www.speedtest.net/
1082ms ping
Download speed is ... 0.09 Mbps :erm:
Upload speed is ... 0.01 Mbps :wtf:

edit: Or is this a general ADSL issue in CPT? Even the mobile data connection on my cell phone is struggling.

edit2: Restarted my router and speedtest returns normal results now!

We'd need to check if there is an area issue or an issue on your line. As far as I am aware, there are no general speed issues in CT today. Please drop me a PM :)

Paste tracert - that pings looks wrong

Also having speed issues today, international is slow - up and down. Pings are fine though

Ive been trying to download some stuff via http over the last few days and I'm getting sub 40k speeds on my 4mg uncapped.
Change to my (afrihost) capped account and I get 350k average speeds.

Why is this? It says I should be experiencing "100% Real Time speed" whatever that means.

Are you shaping the uncapped accounts?

Thanks

At least your support guys are on the ball. Spent quite some time with them on the phone yesterday and they are calling tonight again.

We'll see if it improves... Just wondering now, is Seacom still a problem? If yes, how much of my problem is related to that?

Can I confirm with some other guys? 360p on a 1MB shouldn't be a problem right?

"Real Time" doesn't include HTTP downloads, you will see the shaping for downloads and P2P as a percentage in client zone.

Hi Afrigirl, since 2 weeks ago when I had the line installed it has always synced at 10mbs down and 1mbs up. Am I suppose to only let it sync at 4mbs and if so how. I've posted my speed tests in a previous post from last night. Any ideas?

Ps. You guys are really great with your support and it is much appreciated.
