Actually, that's not a bad idea.
You can get 10Mbps 100GB/m for R697 if bundled, R200 cheaper than uncapped - where I download on average 98GB per month
That's not a bad idea if you don't want the flexibility of uncapped.
18:49 Shaping Policy: 50% Download/ 50% P2P
Afrihost guys on leave today? No opinion from them?
Just got home.
Data used today is 461.265MB - I know this has no bearing on shaping. Just saying.
So it seems for me (in Cape Town) I will now be permanently shaped to 50% or less when I'm home and awake due to whatever (AH/MTN capacity).
I know there have been a few posts about increasing IPC in Cape Town. I can promise that it is something we are always watching closely and we are definitely considering at a management level.
With regard to client's experience, we are confident that the capacity we provide is consistent with the number of users subscribed on the service. How (and when) users choose to make use of the bandwidth is out of our hands - except where shaping can bring some level of control over overall internet experience. Cape Town clients should definitely not feel that they are receiving a lesser product, but we can't control the times that clients choose to use their bandwidth. Even if you built a 10 lane highway, if everyone in the city decides to drive at the same time, there is going to be congestion.
However, as much as we are encouraging all Cape Town users to use the opportunity of less shaped or unshaped bandwidth after hours, we are also watching usage reports closely to seize the first opportunity to upgrade our capacity. If we can justify the upgrade with increased throughput and bandwidth moved, then we are definitely happy to do so. As I mentioned in previous posts, we need to demonstrate that the additional usage will fulfil a 24 hour capacity upgrade, not just relieve peak congestion while there is little to no usage off-peak for a large majority of the 24 hour cycle.
In any case, we have raised this issue with management, and we are assured that this is continually being discussed and monitored, and we want to absolutely assure our Cape Region clients that we will look into upgrading the IPC as soon as we see that it is viable, and we'll report that immediately here on MyBB should that become a reality.
My bad, we've had a pretty jam packed day today
The shaping should go down after hours when the network becomes quieter. I'm almost certain that your downloads will run at full speed after mid-night, give it a shot.
In terms of the capacity on Cape Town, AfriMan (my partner in crime) posted this
21:48 Shaping Policy: 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P

If you're sticking with Uncapped, don't forget you always have 5 free Turbocharge sessions every month, and VERY cheap topup at R29 (number of sessions depends on your speed profile)

looking at your network map there is connectivity to PE from CT on MTN fibre, any chance of getting a point here in the Eastern Cape?
We know that EC also routes via Cape Town's IPC, and we are currently deploying a fibre link directly from PE to Cape Town for the best possible latencies in the EC area.
With regard to upgrading Cape Town's IPC, as I mentioned a day or so back, this is being discussed by management, and whether we can justify the additional cost with projected bandwidth usage. Remember that if we currently not moving enough bandwidth in off peak times, adding more IPC may not increase bandwidth usage significantly, so we need to be sure that the upgrade will yield the right results. Again, it's about how much we sell, it purely around us getting the increased usage to justify the additional capacity.
I'll hopefully have some more info on this very soon, and will update MyBB as soon as I do![]()
So the fibre link isnt active yet?

See on their site it doesnt have the green tick. Hopefully this means our internet will get even better soon
Afriman if this isnt complete do you have a rough ETA on when it will be done?
