Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

I'm getting terrible speeds on torrents. I supposed they are shaped because of the shortage of bandwidth but I'm surprised Afrihost hasn't gotten extra capacity from IS yet.

Haven't tested any other protocols yet

Things seemed to have improved alot. From Cape Town.

Thanks guys.

I reckon we should wait for Monday and see what happens then - when the businesses join in again....The weekend speeds have been very good so far and stable as well.

Just got my uncapped 1mbps account and getting 999 ping in HoN games. Anyone else? Something I'm missing. It's fine in Diablo, Starcraft, WoW... Just in HoN, any ideas?

Terrible for me as well on a 1mb line

Afrihost Capped
Download Speed: 297 kbps (37.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 401 kbps (50.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 113 ms

Afrihost Uncapped
Download Speed: 114 kbps (14.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 402 kbps (50.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 111 ms

It seems downloads picked up overnight, although the general browsing experience hasn't been great

2.5 hours of unbroken stream of NASA TV via Xbox LIVE for the Curiosity landing on Mars this morning. Thanks Afrihost. That was epic! :D

Okay, my local latency is terrible atm. I've logged a ticket for it :

Pinging www.afrihost.co.za [196.38.88.139] with 32 bytes of data:

This is on a 10mb line. Normally my pings are between 8-12ms.

So I have been having hassles since switching to Afrihost from Mweb this month. Speeds are incredibly erratic, but mostly way below 1Mbps download. Even to the point of having faster upload than download. Today I put aside some valuable time to get to the bottom of this. I got Telkom to change my line speed (down to 1Mbps and up to 10Mbps). That made little or no difference.

Finally I borrowed two accounts from a colleague to test and confirm if this was a Telkom or Afrihost issue.

The results speak for themselves:

1. Test with Afrihost uncapped. Telkom line syncing at 10Mbps.

2. Test with Afrihost capped.

3. Test with Webafrica capped

Here are my ADSL line statistics:

Clearly Afrihost are having trouble. So far, all I can say is that the Mweb uncapped product is clearly superior and more consistent. I am paying for 4mbps and I'm getting less than 1. I honestly just want my money back at this stage. I may accept that Afrihost are having technical issues , but I don't feel confident that it's going to get any better any time soon. Afriman, is this (above) normal?

We are currently waiting for the IPC upgrade to be completed, however Telkom need to do their part to get this finalised. We are told that once this is completed, contention will drop dramatically, and speeds will return to normal.

I totally understand that this is frustrating, but we will have this sorted out very soon, please bear with us for just a little longer.

Oh, I'm totally OK to wait if it's going to fix things. I assume this is the Cape Town thing? I guess that means my traffic goes via Cape Town?

*Edit - tracert answered my question*
